"Would you like to have the Covid vaccine at the local hospital?"
"I already had my first dose on Monday last week."
"Are you sure it was the Covid vaccine, not something else? It isn't in your records."

After a bit of toing and froing she accepted that I'd already had the vaccine. She also told me the manager wasn't in this week so the records haven't been updated.

Anybody going to be clapping our wonderful, efficient NHS this evening?

Why are you such a cvnt?

There is every chance that it was a volunteer or someone very junior calling you. Have you tried to help yourself by downloading the NHS App? You can see your vaccine recorded in the ‘immunisation’ section- perhaps you could have calmly replayed that back?

As for 3k a year- how much for private insurance or, more specifically what is the cost of providing acute care? Or chronic care?

If you weren’t such a toxic, bitter lonely old man-perhaps you could have volunteered to help out? I was working in two vaccination clinics recently and everyone from the marshalls to the people phoning around were volunteers- from architects and actuaries to bin men and housewives.

These are phenomenally unprecedented times. How fantastically magnanimous of you to behave in such a way. My hero.

I'm sorry. I don't share your religious fervour for The Envy Of The World™ but I am just as capable as you in misrepresenting what you say. ;)
For clarity, I'm not "supporting the NHS" (why would I?, I can't access any of their services) as that's your own particular drum to beat the life out of.
I was just amused that, as the primary demographic that all this covid malarkey has sought to protect, you could be quite so unashamedly miserable about it. ;)
For clarity, I did say that when I said you were supporting the NHS I was misrepresenting your position. Just like you were misrepresenting mine by saying it was all about my GP surgery getting my date of birth wrong.

Is that clear enough for you?

Just got my first appointment in 2 weeks time.

A bit surprised it’s in the Edinburgh Conference Centre rather than a clinic or hospital.

30 miles away but at least it’s an excuse to get out the house.

Our local one is at a venue which is usually empty, has easy road and rail access, along with toilets, etc.

Those aspects would seem more important.

My mother's jab was at Barnet Football Club.
It was fairly quiet, which might be normal for BFC?

My original appointment was with Boots West Quay Road, Southampton, 30+ miles away. But when our local hospital had some spare vaccine and offered an appointment by text I grabbed it and cancelled the Southampton appointment to free it up for someone else. It turned out to be the Pfizer vaccine, and I believe the Southampton appointment would have been AZ.

Had the Oxford AZ one yesterday (clinically extremely vulnerable due to compromised immune system). had a crap night sleep due to a sore arm and my knee joints really ached ( I do have dodgy knees). Felt a bit queasy as well but nothing too bad.
Biggest proble though, because of the compromised immune system I don't get the full protection of the vaccine and still have to sheild :(

Not so good news.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine does not appear to offer protection against mild and moderate disease caused by the viral variant first identified in South Africa, according to a study due to be published on Monday.

Although none of the more than 2,000 patients in the study died or was hospitalised, the findings, which have not yet been peer reviewed, could complicate the race to roll out vaccines as new strains emerge.

In both the human trials and tests on the blood of those vaccinated, the jab showed significantly reduced efficacy against the 501Y.V2 viral variant, which is dominant in South Africa, according to the randomised, double-blind study seen by the Financial Times.

UK still seems to be the only major country in the world that is vaccinating at a quick rate and is also increasing that rate.
(Israel is now tailing of, having been way ahead of everyone)

The EU are a month behind the UK in proportion of population vaccinated and seem to have hit a (low) plateau....UK is vaccinating at 4 - 5 x the rate of the EU.
It's all rather impressive.

I am sure, or at least as sure as I can be, that NHS clerical errors have killed people. I am equally sure that if you replaced the entire NHS admin system with the most efficient, best staffed, most up to date system ever devised clerical errors would still kill people. In fact I would be very surprised if the NHS weren't aware of this, didn't study the matter and don't have whole teams of people who's job it is to deal with it.

Is that OK? Well no, but it's also unavoidable in such a large organisation with so much data.
Do I still think S_L is acting like a childish knob in these unprecedented times®? Yes :D

EDIT; In fact, I know they have people who's job it is to deal with this - or at least, they did. A mate of mine had an extremely tedious summer job once at an NHS record office. He just had to go through paper and electronic records and try to combine them, work out which ones were referring to the same person twice and so on. This was in about 2004 but I imagine they still do it.

In principle I'm in agreement with the thrust of your post - "These are phenomenally unprecedented times..." and we should approach them with good grace under pressure and do less complaining in these unprecedented, unprecedented, superlatively and most definitely, unprecedented…times.

Or, as they used to say: "Don't you know there's a war on?"

Well, I had mine at the local surgery, didn't feel it going in, but was cold in bed ...according to swmbo'd I was hot...so I had a bit of a fever and hence a few weird dreams.
Ok now though.....

Human error is probably unavoidable, even when people try their best, especially when they're under pressure.
I'd counsel anyone to remember this.

I think Boris and the Binmen have done an amazing job with the strategic vaccine plan. It's not perfect but it's a pretty amazing job considering the sheer volume of patients and the mess the virus has created.

Every single one of them coordinated by local NHS services, nothing to do with Boris and certainly not his cronies. Every clinic coordinated typically by nurses, too. Every volunteer contacted and corralled by NHS staff.

I know you now that, I also know you know I was going to say this in response. You had to say what you said because you’re an antagonistic troll, I reply because people are fed up with your nit-picking whinging.

While I agree the NHS are doing a good job in rolling the vaccine delivery out, the reason there’s a supply of vaccine to roll out is because of the choices the government made back last spring/summer. Fuck knows they haven’t done everything right, but they did get that right.

To be fair, without Boris’ shrewd moves, they would be like the EU. Waiting for something to inject, the praise belongs to both Boris and the NHS - neither could have done it without the other.
