What 4x4 For 4K

For most people probably including you and definitely including me when I had one, 4x4s don't make sense.
Think carefully about what you want from one as you might end up with something expensive to drive that you don't like driving. I loved my Grand Cherokee and don't regret it at all, i think you want a proper Range Rover or a similar premium 4x4. Just consider if you want it enough to pay for it.

In my continuing quest to become the dullest car nerd on this forum, I concur on this 100%. I bought the CRV mainly because I'm a big fan of Honda. I find them bullet-proof in terms of build quality, unassuming and very thoughtfully designed (as I've alluded to in previous posts on this thread, the team that designed the cabin ergonomics of the CRV could piss all the SLK's design team before the Germans had eaten their rye bread and sausage in the morning), but, and there's always a but, despite the 'Eco' setting I always use, I'm still pissing fuel by lugging around a 4WD system that I never really use in a car with the aerodynamics of a fridge freezer. Given my needs, an Accord touring would have suited me way better, only Honda don't make 'em no more, coz everybody wants a pointless 4WD SUV.

Would I buy another SUV? Nope.


Edit: just occurred to me, as I hit Submit, that the CRV has developed its first gremlin in 8 years over the weekend, as the windscreen wipers intermittently cease to work. Bloody annoying as you kind of only needs them in the rain and that's when you discover this fault.
I've ruled out a fuse, as if the fuse had gone it would be 100% not worky, full time. Dodgy relay perhaps?

Nothing on any setting. Washer works, demister, rear wash, etc., all tickity boo. Just nothing on the wipers.

Sent a text to a bloke I know does auto electrics. He was very much, 'Fahk off....intermittent problems are a fahking 'mare. Try to change the relay'

I've not had a car for over three years. When I sold the last one I thought I'd just hire one when I need one as there's no where to park in town where I work anyway. I built a good relationship with the local car hire company and they've done me a few favours. If I hire a car to go to a wedding or funeral they give me the best they have. I've hired transits for tip runs and saloons for trips to Cornwall and we all know nothing goes faster than a hire car. If you hit a pothole in a hire car, so long as you're still facing in the right direction you just floor it again and don't care. Fab!

<This story has nothing to do with this thread, but you're getting it anyway> Last year I took a Friday off work and hired a van to do a tip run and pick up some furniture. I filled the van with all my rubbish, got to the tip and they said "Sorry, you can't come in, it's not van day. Van days are Tuesdays and Thursdays". I went back to the car hire company. They'd never heard of "van day" either - it's a new lockdown thing. They phoned around for me and all of the tips in a 50 mile radius had the same policy. They helped me load all of the rubbish into an estate, held some until I came back for a second run and I went back to the tip with an angry/smug face. There were no extra charges from the hire company and they couldn't have been more helpful.

Fed up now with not having a car outside that I can just jump, and being mostly at home, I want a "do it all car". Having no no claims bonus to put on a car I phoned Carol Nash about their Six Wheel Policy and the price they gave me for the car and bike was very competitive.

Also, on the Honda. I know that ones petrol but also consider if you see any, the 2.2 cdti diesel. One of the best diesel engines ever made. No dpf filter, camchain, cheap tax and 50 mpg. They stopped making them around 2011.ish.

Excuse me. I zoomed out of the map and Leeds was the first big city I saw. I've got friends in that area and I paused to think that I could ask one of them to look at it for me but even then, its getting it down here and the running costs of it will be more than a CRV.

It has occurred to me that CRVs are big Nissan Notes. Not that I care as I'm an anti-cool person - I have crocheted brake reservoir covers on my bike (removed them for its service though to save the Triumph mechanics doing it). And most leather arm rests on a cars this age have signs of wear to I'm likely to crochet covers for them too

I draw the line at pink though. It's ok for soft furnishings and hair, but not motor vehicles.
