Yep. Get on on the 'zeitgeist'. Look at the old codgers around 50 with a bit of disposable income. Look at what they hankered after in their youth and there's the sweet spot.
MR2 anyone?

British Leyland made awful cars.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 10:02 pm I had a beige 1.5 mk3 Allegro, it was a great laugh when I was 22, and a big bonus was that the seats folded down to make a double bed, but it was a rusty shit heap that drank oil
To be fair to the Allegro it was a comfortable car that went well (for a 1970s saloon), it went round corners with a lot of body roll but didn't misbehave, certainly a better car to use than a 1979 Escort or Golf, but it was poorly assembled, both body and engine, and the body was made out of cheap, poorly painted steel, which rotted (where it wasn't covered in oil), and it was pig uglyMr Moofo wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:33 amBritish Leyland made awful cars.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 10:02 pm I had a beige 1.5 mk3 Allegro, it was a great laugh when I was 22, and a big bonus was that the seats folded down to make a double bed, but it was a rusty shit heap that drank oil

Oi loike that.....
I had an Opel Manta Coupe. It was lardy but fun. Probably thought it was lardy cos really I wanted a Capri!!
Have the Vitesse...its a little quicker....and if its a saloon, the roof unbolts very easily. Just dont put any weight in the boot if you do that.Noggin wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 3:42 pmI had an Opel Manta Coupe. It was lardy but fun. Probably thought it was lardy cos really I wanted a Capri!!
My list is simple. Cars cos I don't know the makes of classic/vintage bikes (although I love them when I see them!)
1969 Midget - I think it would have to be a 1968 as I want wire wheels
And a Triumph Herald/Vitesse - want the soft top
Simple things
Unlikely I'll ever find one here (that I can afford!) or have a garage to keep it in. But it's a nice dream!David wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 3:47 pmHave the Vitesse...its a little quicker....and if its a saloon, the roof unbolts very easily. I had two of them, I also had a Mk 2 Capri, the Manta is a much, much better car to drive, and more reliable and less rust prone.
It was really nice. I probably only thought it was lardy cos I had a Datsun Sunny 120y before it!! LOLLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 4:05 pmI had two of them, I also had a Mk 2 Capri, the Manta is a much, much better car to drive, and more reliable and less rust prone.
A Manta weighs about the same as a modern Fiesta, GTEs are a claimed 140bhp, so more than a 3 litre Capri.
My first Manta was yellow, my wife called it primrose, my second was bronze, my wife said it was metallic brown.Noggin wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 4:15 pmIt was really nice. But it just didn't have the kudos of the Capri. I've always wanted to drive a Capri ever since! LOL But apart from being a kind of burnt orange, I liked the Manta!!
I lived in the countryside so I couldn't see over the hedges even in a Landy!! LOL Would have been awesome!Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 4:18 pmMy first Manta was yellow, my wife called it primrose, my second was bronze, my wife said it was metallic brown.Noggin wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 4:15 pmIt was really nice. Driving a Capri is like taking the seat out of a normal car and sitting on the floor as far back as possible. They're alright on an open road, but horrible in built up areas
Bought one a few years back. God only knows why. It was a '74, IIRC, with round rear wheel arches (geeks know that this is quite rare as they changed them from square, to round and then back again). It was fun a for a fortnight, then I suddenly had this epiphany and thought, 'What the fuck do I want this for?'.
if the budget was upped I'd have the Sunbeam Tiger.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 9:00 pmIf I upped the budget it would be Sunbeam Alpine everyday of the week.
