Just for you from this morning’s 21 mile ride. Mostly tarmac but a little bit of sand and dunes along the way

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
It was sunny, cold and slippery out today with all the semi flooded back lanes a mix of slush, black ice and crunchy ice. Firle Bostal was sheet ice for the top 1/3 which meant discretion was the better of valour for the descent and I walked it.

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
Almost warm out today with 7 degrees and no ice for a change . 21 mile loop on the MTB along the edge of the river Yare and back along the coast
My Strava showed a max speed of just over 31 mph which isn’t bad for an ancient MTB on cross country tyres. Managed by slipstreaming a tipper truck a foot off the back of it till I ran out of gears and lost the tow

East Dean Church near the village of Crowlink (which in its time was the Mos Eisly of the English Sarf Coast. Winds were horrible to the point of dangerous over Beachy Head and doing this sort of ride after finishing two 12Hr nights is hard work. ohh and if your wondering about the title I was dropping off an old (as in 30 years+) sugino BB tool to a mate as he has an eccentric BB on his SS that this will adjust properly.

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
No words for the conditions today, suffice to say the Strava fitness tracker said that 11.25 miles of single speeding was equivalent exertion to the 50 mile road ride I did on Monday.

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
I really need to get some road/trail miles in - even my Peloton miles have dropped right off recently and struggling to hit over 20mph average.

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
Another one of my mostly road loops on mtb X Country tyres with stonking coastal freezing winds ....21 miles in 1 hour 33 so within about a minute or 2 of my average for the loop. If it was a northerly wind i would have been off road most of the time on the dunes with a much slower average speed due to terrain and sand as i always try to have headwind outbound and tailwind home bound for 10-15 miles each way

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
1st mtb ride, who am I kidding, 1st ride of the year yesterday. Only 10 miles and 1000ft in 3 hours and I feel like I've been battered.
On the plus side I didn't die on any of the tech stuff, nothing broke on the bike and it's the cleanest I've ever come back from a ride at Longridge
On the bad side when I turned the outside tap on to clean the bike one of the fittings burst as it was still frozen

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
lol the joy of MTBing.... i've not actually been outside for 3-4 weeks. It's just a complete slop fest and i'm not sure there's any local fun to be had currently.Ditchfinder wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 8:33 am 1st mtb ride, who am I kidding, 1st ride of the year yesterday. Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
I was suckered in by the frost and clear skies promising super fast frozen mud - walking the dog on the local hill has allowed me to see a few new trails are possible when it freezes again or if summer ever arrives although a lot of the cheeky has started to be fenced off locally due to the increased pressures of local exercise.

got out today on the bike, a nice urban 30km, nice to be out, bit chilly though. was meant to be heading to Windsor tomorrow but looks wet, so will wait for a few day, might stay local tomorrow.
MTB Thursday though, can't wait.

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
Well that went well, NOT. Three miles from home punctured, put new tube in and pump wasn't working to well so took it off and the pump unscrewed the valve core as well, sorted that and then pump just wouldn't put any air in the tube so it was fooked. Luckily Mrs M came to the rescue and collected me before I had a full on Donald Duck Mantrum and lobbed everything in the ditch. 38 miles and 2900ft of climbing before it all came to an unplanned halt.

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
got another 52km done, a few mini sprint races with my mate, little London sight seeing, then ended it by doing some hills (Swains lane, Ally Pally and another,) 11.5% incline for a bit. knackered. so nice to be out again.
it was was 2nd attempt at Swains lane, set what I thought was an ok time, 3min 54 secs, the quickest on strava is 1.48, sod that

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
I went OUTSIDE ! Due to the weather and surgery, i'm not actually sure i've been outside on a bike in 2021. So made a very refreshing change. The sun even ventured out to say hello. Awesome !!!

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
8 mile commute from Lewes to Brighton this morning with a cheeky borrowing of Mrs M’s Cube EBike and a blast up and over the Downs. Bloody hell was it wet, fields like swamps and the climb up to Kingston ridge looked like a whole squadron of Panzers had been up it!

Re: 2021, riding mileage and updates
Got another 25km smashed out today but this time on the MTB, first time I've been since September. Went to Epping forest with my cousin (who was broke after 12km)
Was nice and wet, very sloppy but loads of fun, was absolutely caked in mud, my cousin has a small front mud guard on his front wheel, seemed to stop quite a bit for a small guard, so going to order one in a bit.
Could of done with some glass's as well going down a few hill my face was getting shite in left right and centre, but then I guess they would get covered in dirt and there could't see
Anyways loving the new T140, massive massive upgrade from the 10/11 year old Boardman i had before, goes well up hill's and goes well through the slope, got to get used to riding it but today it was great. Need to move the brake and gear levers a bit to get it all how I like it.

Managed out today for a 20 something mile road and trails loop on the MTB. And it was SUNNY!!! .......by the time i got home again an hour and a half later the fog had just started to creep in
