Looking for some new GoreTex spring/autumn gloves.

Post by gremlin »

The trusty HG gloves are virtually crawling to the bin themselves after many years of faithful commuting service. So, you know the drill, recommend me some new ones based on the following parameters:

Not too chunky, i.e. not winter gloves like Scott of the Antarctic would have favoured. I have heated grips and in the depths of winter the muffs go on.

No bling on the buggers. Seriously, Kevlar knuckles? Who falls on their knuckles apart from orangutans? Keep your fancy colours, too. Black's where it's at.

GoreTex is not negotiable. Has to be.

Spoke to the guys at the SportsBikeShop and they recommend these based on my demands:

Pricey, but I don't mind if they're good value in terms of performance, fits, etc.

Normally I wouldn't give Richa the time of day, but the fella was very complimentary about these, not least the price.

Not heard of Dane before. Bit 'Hmmmm' because of that fact alone.

What else yer got?

FWIW, Hideout Leathers sell Dane gloves so, presumably, they are good quality materials and manufacture.

[And I'd never heard of them either!]

No concerns about ''Dane'' kit it's very good. Not cheap but there we are.

IIRC Spin's interview with Hideout (find on his YouTube SurvivalSkillsUK collection) covered the costs of making gear - think about just the amount of stitching involved.

I've got goretex richa gloves and can confirm they are fully waterproof but just as importantly, they fit great. But I think gloves do need to be tried on and compared for finger length etc. Sportsbikeshop have a great returns policy. 👍

Agree on the u got to try 'em front. Do wonder with some makes who's hands they made the moulds out of.

I think the whole 'bike gear'' situation is a personal choice - personally some of the prices charged for some kit is telephone numbers. I like to ride with summer gloves all year and blessed the day I gave in and fitted heated grips to the Harley. Things have changed now with a heated fleece but still remember the winters arriving home with ice on the front of the Belstaff Trailmaster and frozen fingers.

I did get a Alpinestars mesh jacket a few years ago and that's a great bit of summer kit.

Given up with so called unlined waterproof kit - tried so many and used gallons of Nickwax so it's down the local Arco workwear for me now. Had a mad moment a few years ago and bought a Harley 2 pc waterproof suit - great design but it leaked and then there's only 90 days warranty...WTF !!

Key is try before u buy and if u like it, have it.

I got a pair of these last year as I wanted a pair of gloves that were in between summer/winter gloves. These are about right for me, not too bulky but warmer than my summer mits and goretex. I don't ride all year round though.

Chatting to the bloke at Bikestop in Stevenage he was saying the latest Richa gloves are really good (although I guess he might)

I've never been brave enough to do this.

Someone said they'd been buying gloves and had asked how strong they were? Dealer replied positively, so person asked can i check? Dealer said yes.

So they took the gloves that they were interested in, and tried to tear them. Rip. Next pair, rip. Eventually the dealer joined in!

I bought a pair of Richa Street Touring g-t gloves for my son for Christmas, from SBS. Seem really good quality, mid weight, quite feely, not too bulky. Bit more expensive tho I paid £20 less in Dec. He hasn't done many miles on them yet for obv reasons.

Went for the Held. Very Impressed with them so far, though my riding has been very limited since I got them. Plenty of feel, warm when it's been nippy and comfy to wear.
Not the cheapest, but as my ol' nan would say, 'Buy cheap, buy twice'.

I like Held stuff. I've a textile jacket made by them which is very comfy.

I still have a Gericke Gore-tex Master V Lockout jacket and trouser combo, c. 1920's if I recall, which are still really warm and dry, but starting to show their age. One of the sleeve zips has bust and I suspect Tailor Arif, my man with the sewing machine, might struggle to replace it. Bugger really as I'm loathe to buy anything new, but if I have to I will deffo look to Held on the basis of their gloves.
