Kawasaki's timeless KLR650 is back... in the USA at least.

But with an ABS option and fuel injection, maybe - just maybe - it might head this way?

It's not an unreasonable price, and I could be tempted... I've always liked big singles.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan puts out 24 bhp and is only 20 kg lighter and there are overland tourers who rave about them as perfect for the job. Enough power to keep up with traffic on motorways but small enough and nimble enough to negotiate goat tracks without worruing about picking the bugger up when you drop it

I remember when they first came out they were popular all over Europe but completely shunned in the UK as the market then was for sports bikes and any form of ADV bike was what those weirdos in France rode

That 38bhp is claimed and very optimistic, the original ones were very slow and they weighed less than that

A mate used to have a KL600 (i think that was the model name) demon of a thing with him on it. He rode my KLR650 and said something along the lines of they've fucked that up then!

If I was doing long distance touring I'd choose comfort over off road ability, I've done some long distances on trail bikes and it really isn't fun, and you don't need enduro suspension to ride down a dirt track, most commuter bikes would make better round the world bikes than trail bikes.
