That tells us what is wrong with the manufacturing process - entirely understandable.
Bu yeah the UK are ahead of the game because they aren't obliged, any more, to follow EMA to give this new vaccine in the UK. All the while the EMA hang on for approval in the EU then the UK will gladly take all the vaccine that is available I guess. Again, it's timing.
And you can understand that just as EMA approval in the EU arrives that there is 'disappointment' as demand outstrips supply.

An effective roll out (largely delivered by the NHS) got the vaccine in place in the UK.
Now leaving the EU threatens its supply to the UK.
Again wrong. The AZ vaccine is being made in Wales and they have committed to 2m doses per week. Likely more than we can get into people.
That commitment is subject to 'best effort' like the Belgian plant, which has not produced as much vaccine as anticipated; sadly neither are guaranteed.
Edit: that seems to refer to the early production phase, which Wales is past.
in the event that Wrexham makes more than the UK can use, will it send it to the EU?

Boris is lucky rather than some sort of genius.
It tells us not only what the manufacturing process is, but also for example critically what the contractual basis is.

If you're a vaccine producer, do you make it in the UK, from where you can sell it anywhere (subject to approvals) or in the EU, where they threaten to stop you selling it in other countries?
Brexit bonus!
So in a nutshell, the UK insisted that Astrazeneca UK-produced vac's will only go to the UK, up to the point where the order is met = that's fine.
EU threaten to do the same = uproar.
The UK agreement was reached in June, three months before the European one. As you could imagine, the UK government said the supply coming out of the UK supply chain would go to the UK first. Basically, that's how it is.
Meanwhile, Boris states that the EU shouldn't impose restrictions on vaccine exports.

Now they have the shit show that’s going on in the EU, with the EU threatening to withhold exports. If that was Boris threatening to withhold exports of vaccine orders, this place would have erupted in claims of murderer..,
But isn't the UK witholding exports of the AZ vaccine via the agreement that AZ vaccines can only be made available outside the UK once the UK's consignment amount has been delivered, which will take several months? It may not be witholding exports in name, but it amounts to the same thing.
Oh, murderer etc...

"Do the same"
NO
The UK made an AGREEMENT with the maker of the vaccine for exclusivity for one of its production lines.
The EU are looking to FORCE the vaccine maker to not export any of their product from the EU.

To be honest, when I voted for Brexit in 2016 in my wildest dreams I never expected the Brexit bonus to be so quickly realised and so graphically demonstrated. Serendipity indeed.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the EU contract with AstraZeneca stated they had to use EU factories.
An interesting snippet I picked up today. While you can still become infected with SARS-CoV-2 after vaccination and you might even develop Covid-19, there is apparently "no data" on how effective the first shot is against preventing severe symptoms because so far there haven't been any!
That is to say, if I heard it right, that no one who has had their first shot of the Oxford vaccine has developed severe symptoms even after subsequently developing a second dose of covid. That's a good sign right?
