Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Given the below European Covid-19 vaccination levels, if (when?) the so-called new British mutation of Covid-19 increasingly spreads in continental Europe the likely mortality rates look extremely worrying. In particular, I have French family and I fear for them.

FWIW, the test and trace software is as slick as fuck now. Yes it had a rocky start, but now it’s pretty impressive.
If there’s an issue it’s in that people aren’t answering the phone, are unhelpful and don’t want to know.

They kind of missed the bus. And that plus the initial shitness damaged its credibility. And they did further damage when they said they might give the data to the police.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
The first lockdown worked and cases were low. So they allowed tourists back, and cases rose again. So that was stopped. We couldn't stop folk coming from the mainland so the tour operators put on great deals for them and they came in droves. Cases rose, so that was stopped.
Then we only allowed folk with -ve test . All the time, cases rising slightly.
Then students came back from Spain for Xmas and up again. Then Xmas. Up again. Then we went into tier 3 for Kings, but that didn't work. Cases went berserk. The Govt are putting this at the hands of the Canarians who went mental celebrating Kings and fucking it up for us all.
The Govt will be super strict on this tier 4 and won't let go until we're back safe again.

Strange afternoon, for about 2 hours I seemed to manifest just about every possible symptom of the CV Lurgy & then it went away.

Anyone in any doubt about the numbers and how serious...
The NHS are back to taking over private hospitals to get more beds/theatres....my surgery has just been cancelled by the Spire again - not likely to be able to start up again until April.
COVID-19 can really go fuck itself.

I got very lucky there recently, i was expecting mine to be cancelled right up to the day before, but it actually went ahead. That was in a Spire too, so not all of them are out of action. But, with the numbers going up, it's hard to see anything else in at least the short term.Wreckless Rat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 10:20 am Anyone in any doubt about the numbers and how serious...

@Weeksy my op last summer was in the main Southampton hospital. During lockdown 1, they took over the Spire next door for essential surgery, main hospital for covid. I got lucky with timing, so non-urgent (albeit bumped a year up the list), my pre-op was just as staff were moving back off covid activities.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Northamptonshire now has a couple of no symptom test sites. Encouraged my team at work to get a test so decided I needed to set the example and booked mine for 1000 this morning. Easy process, good social distancing being enforced by what looked like not working students, unpleasant doing the throat so struggled with that, the nose one, god it made my eyes water!!!!
But 25 minutes later a text and email to say negative. Now planning to go once a week as I work with the public and emergency services.
I would encourage anyone who can to get tested, might be a way to identify asymptomatic people and help to get rid of this.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Well this is not a great read - if you live in a ski resort. We already think it's unlikely that we'll open at all but all of us have been hoping for an Easter opening - since the government kyboshed February yesterday (understandably - I'm not complaining but we are desperately hoping that numbers and hospital levels will reduce enough for us to get a tiny bit of season)
But - how the fuck is it possible for so many students to be allowed to travel to a training course in a small village which has probably got a high level of older residents???
Unimpressed. What is quite perturbing is that they are all supposed to have had negative tests. So either the tests were wrong or they mixed with positive people en route In that case what are the chances of 19 travellers getting the virus from the same positive person on a train?? (or bus or plane)

Daily Fail link -Haute-Savoie: several British students positive for Covid in a residence in the Chamonix valley

Vallorcine
At least 14 positive cases for Covid-19 have been declared in a tourist residence in Vallorcine, in Haute-Savoie, near Chamonix. According to information from France Bleu Pays de Savoie, positive cases would be identified in a group of 26 British students.
Several positive cases for Covid-19 have been declared in a tourist residence in Vallorcine, in Haute-Savoie. According to information from France Bleu Pays de Savoie , the infected people are part of a group of 26 students of British origin , all of whom had a negative PCR test when they arrived in France. Test results are pending for ten of them, but of the first 16 students tested, 14 are said to be positive for covid. Three samples were sent to the CNR in Lyon (national reference center) for sequencing , which will make it possible to determine which strain of the virus it is, in particular the so-called "English variant".
They reported the symptoms after their arrival. It is not yet clear whether they all came directly from Britain or other countries. Some of them would also have traveled in a TGV between Lille and Lyon . It is thus now a question of carrying out a big work of tracing of "contact cases". The Regional Health Agency says "investigations are underway". There would be no other tourists staying in the residence concerned. The staff were also tested and all results are said to be negative. For its part, the town hall of Chamonix, near Vallorcine at the foot of Mont-Blanc, announces that it is in constant contact with the ARS, the services of the CPAM and the prefecture of Haute-Savoie.

The NHS are back to taking over private hospitals to get more beds/theatres....my surgery has just been cancelled by the Spire again - not likely to be able to start up again until April.
COVID-19 can really go fuck itself.
I was lifting heavy stuff around last September and got a minor inguinal hernia, had an open surgery repair in October at the Chichester Nuffield. Got it done really quickly partly because hernias don't get better by themselves, but mainly because I did think that when the "second wave" came along the private hospitals would again be called in to help the NHS ...

With about 1.2% of the French currently having been vaccinated and only about 40% of the French population saying they would get vaccinated when a vaccine is offered to them, I honestly see no chance at all of skiing in France before next winter.Noggin wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 4:38 pm Well this is not a great read - if you live in a ski resort. We are due to go to Bénodet in Brittany for a couple of weeks June/July and we don't think that will be happening either.
