Just in need of a little light re-calibration.
They are fun for the little popping-into-town journeys.

You were warned repeatedly that long term retention of the bumming hat would result in dire consequences.

Re: I want a scooter, am I sick?
My mate/boss buys Lambrettas from Italy/EU and does them up and sells them on. He leaves them in the 1960's /70s patina, just making them mechanically correct and a few upgrades like a caliper/brake mod etc, but mostly, they're pretty standard.
I can completely 'get' the whole vibe for it like that... buying a brand new one, not so much.
If i lived in London/somewhere, maybe yeah, for sure.

Re: I want a scooter, am I sick?
I actually parked next to an old Lambretta at the railway station this morning and did give it half a glance but then thought what an absolute bell-end I'd look like riding it and moved on.....

There is a small Brit scooter club over here. Folk still living their yoof, which is ok.
But they are all 4 strokes which kills it a bit as they ride past trying to look cool

Lambrettas are massively unreliable, even Vespa riders take the piss.

For all the pisstaking they seem to do longer trips than many bikers judging by the numbers I see on the motorways around bank holidays.

A friend of mine runs a Vespa/Lambretta workshop and seems to have a whale of a time pissing about with like minded fules on outings and the like.

Re: I want a scooter, am I sick?
Indeed, my sister used to go all over the UK to scooter rallies on a two stroke Vespa 125 and I knew someone who went to Greece and back on a Vespa 200 in 1984 or 5,
Thanks to my sister I knew quite a few people with scooters, none of her friends had a clue about fixing them and I had a steady trail of people asking for help, the Lambrettas used to be prone to heat seizing because they were ridden flat out for long periods on cheap oil and often with leaking or after market exhausts that made the mixture lean, or the points were so old and worn out the ignition timing was a bit variable, Vespas, the older ones with points and Dell Orto carbs suffered similar problems, the late two strokes with cdi, Mikuni carbs and oil pumps were as reliable as a Japanese two stroke.
To be fair to the Italian scooters, they were the equivalent of a BSA Bantam that had been owned by a succession of teenage idiots, and how many people were riding round on Bantams in the mid 80s?

One long trip a year, the rest of the time rebuilding it.

Re: I want a scooter, am I sick?
I always found them to be a good bunch of people, and generally a lot more fun than the wannabe lifestyle bikers we had in Suffolk in the 80s, I went on a couple of scooter rallies on an LC and never had any bother
Edit: my FZ750 was on the VJMC stand at the Copdock Bike Show in 2019, and there was a scooter club stand opposite, a couple of the blokes recognised me and came over and said hello, still seemed like nice blokes, unlike the rest of miserable biker types around us.
