There is a very real risk one of the mutations may turn it really deadly. The 2003 SARS-COV had a death rate of close to 10%, but not the transmissibility of SARS-COV-2, which seems to have a death rate of around 2.6%. A 10% death rate on something as transmittable as CV-19 is a scary thought.
If we are lucky, it will peter out, but the signs for that aint all that promising at the moment, because it is so easily transmitted, and with all our best efforts, its still running rampant, and there are already thousands of variants, it is more luck than anything one of these hasn't turned out to be more like MERS-COV or SARS-COV in terms of fatality rates, or simply nulls the protection offered by vaccination.
...and with that beacon of hope. I'll be off...

Yeah but thats cos those countries are using a numerical system for counting numbers, if we continue to use our non numerical system our covid numbers look much better.

That says to me, our “envy of the world” NHS is shitter at keeping people alive than anywhere in the world. Is it such a surprise nowhere else has copied it....

or maybe we do indeed count CV deaths differently to other countries (which is most likely) but we can't have it all one way. If it's HMG fault we have most infections per 1m, its the NHS' fault we have more deaths per 1m. Some will try and argue about spending, TORY CUTS... we still spend way above most of that list, we are above median spending per capita.weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 8:44 amOr maybe our general public is more stupider ?Wreckless Rat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 8:36 am That says to me, our “envy of the world” NHS is shitter at keeping people alive than anywhere in the world. Sadly the UK wants to bash its government, whether they are left, right or centre. It's a very English trait. The Scotts just like to bleat about everything being the Englishman's fault, the Welsh are too worried about catching sheep, and the Oirish are much like the Scotts...
I did read that Scotland has a worse death rate than England, but no one is screaming about Sturgeon, why is that?

If you wanna bash the NSH surely you need to consider the death rate vs. the hospitalisation rate? I.e. how likely someone is to die once they've been hospitalised?
I dunno what that actually is BTW, but that's what you need to look at.

It's none of this bollocks bellow. It's our rubbish NHS! Rubbish NHS!Wreckless Rat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 8:36 am That says to me, our “envy of the world” NHS is shitter at keeping people alive than anywhere in the world. Is it such a surprise nowhere else has copied it....
Initially the Tory government decided to deliberately allow the virus to spread like wildfire through the population, but just as the first wave was receding, they decided to spend a whopping £849 million bribing people into eating at restaurants; ignored teachers' and parents' concerns to force kids back into schools; withdrew financial support measures; and even issued threats to intimidate people into quitting home-working to go back to commutes and inner city offices.
Their ludicrous behaviour from August up until the post-Christmas lockdown looks an awful lot like they actively wanted to deliberately create an even deadlier second wave doesn't it?
Instead of taking the virus seriously, they used the chaos as an excuse to siphon literally £billions in public funds to their mates, with parasitical outsourcing corporations, Tory party donors, city spivs, dormant shell companies with no employees, and blatant tax-dodging operations all walking away with lucrative no-bid contracts worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
And who, with even the most rudimentary knowledge of UK politics, couldn't have predicted that Boris Johnson and his cabinet of far-right ghouls would prioritise this kind of profiteering at the public expense, over the protecting the lives of tens of thousands of elderly, vulnerable, and disabled people?
Who couldn't have predicted that the Tory response to the crisis would absolutely exemplify their venal and corrupt "profit above people" mentality?
To a kid looking up to me, life ain't nothing but bitches and money.

No arguments here. Of course i want to discuss and debate this on here... but there's limits as to what's going to be a disucssion and what's not.

It's funny isn't it, people are well up for bashing HMG, but mention the beloved NHS and ooooo can't do that.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 8:55 am If you wanna bash the NSH surely you need to consider the death rate vs. the hospitalisation rate? There is no worldwide agreement on what is registered as a CV19 death, the UK uses "died within 28days of a + CV-19 test", regardless of what you die of. As there is no global system, the stats on deaths is all but meaningless. Not quite, but in no way can you put tables up and compare them.
France and UK have similar infection rates, the UK tests a lot more than France, UK 958,585/M vs 618,678/M for France.
This is reflected in the total cases observed 3,466,849/UK vs 2,938,333/France
UK death rate is 1,343/M vs 1,092/M France, making our death rate 20% higher per million
However, do the maths on test performed vs deaths
UK 0.14%
FR 0.17%
You can spin stats to show what you want.... but until there is a global defined metric, most of these stats are not comparable in any shape or form.

It's really difficult to leave politics out of a thread entitled ''Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not' when the restrictions were/are a political decision.
In fact politics plays such a large part in our daily lives that leaving politics out of anything prevents reasonable discussion.
In fact just about every time you (Yorick) write "Here . . . this 'appens . . . " you are arguably bringing politics into the discussion.

I'm not surprised we have the highest death rate in Doccs's carefully chosen snapshot in time. A new strain appeared here and spread very fast around Christmas so we're probably around the peak death rate and in a couple of weeks we'll be below several other countries.
If he was posting it to show we need to be careful and isolate because it is a big problem then fair enough, if his intention was Tory bashing then he knew it was very weak but a good social media meme.

Its worse than that though. If the {leader of choice} tells them exactly what they are allowed to do,
A- The {leader of choice} is a NAZI
B- The {leader of choice} is STEALING MY RIGHTS
C - The {leader of choice} is {insert other WW11 based insult}
D -The {entitled of your choice} ignore it anyway
Also:
If the police enforce the rules they ARE NAZI BASTARDS
If they dont they ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOBS THE BASTARDS
Has HMG been perfect - No
Has NHS been perfect - No
Has the population been perfect - No
Would any other government have done miles better - I'm going with not really
Does the media help - No

Can't see the vid as it's blocked at work, but I bet looking at the lyrics it's the Sleaford Mods? A band who without the politics wouldn't have any audience as they are fuking awful. At least Public Enemy/Rage Against the Machine etc could actually write a tune.Potter wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 12:29 pmAsian Boss wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 9:11 amIt's none of this bollocks bellow.
