Trousers for off road cycling

I need a new pair of long trousers for riding off road, I want long trousers for the protection from thorns when riding single track, I've been using a pair of Axo MX trousers I bought in 1998 but the ratchet fastening broke in the washing machine yesterday.

The MX pants worked very well and were comfortable, should I just buy another pair of mx pants or is there something better available?

Budget is £80, I've seen a good pair of Alpine Stars MX pants for £70.

Size short and fat, waist 36" inside leg 30" but a longer inside leg isn't a problem, and I'm too old for tight clothing

Don't seem to be, but I only use them in cold weather, I wear shorts when it's warm and get loads of scratches.

The Fox Ranger trousers I mentioned in the other thread are worth considering. I’ve also found Superdry cargo trousers to be okay for riding too but as they’re cotton they’re not much cop in the wet.

The Rangers look good, sadly none in stock anywhere.
But that's the sort of thing I'm looking for.
As for all you "rule 5" types, you'll have to come out for a winter ride so I can see just how manly you are.

I've been using cheap combats from army/navy store over my summer cycling shorts. Works well when cold-to-near-freezing.

I’ve been using Endura Humvee ( yep stupid name) trousers for a while, seem to be lasting well, I’m not a frequent cyclist probably wear them more walking the dog these days.Plenty of pockets, 2 zip up hip, one zip up thigh on the front and 2 velcro close to the rear.Windproof but not that waterproof,very lightweight,no padding so I wear lycra shorts underneath.

I've just ordered some Oneal Trailfinder, mostly due to needing to get something, and what is available in my size, a bit more than I really wanted to spend, but they are intended for cycling rather than motorcross, I'd have preferred the Fox Flexair, but you can't buy something if no one has stock, I considered buying some cheap waterproofs but decided that would be a waste of money, as I don't really need waterproof, more gorse bush and bramble proof.

I use running leggings under shorts. The dry quickly, they are cheap - they are not waterproof but I do wear long sealskins to dry a keep my feet warm ...

I use long sealskins waterproof socks, black leggings and waterproof mtb shorts, I’ve got some longer waterproof trousers but they feel restrictive when on the bike. I find the setup I have keeps me dry enough especially with a cheap waterproof over jacket

Same as most of the others I have a set of muddyfox leggings I wear all during winter under my MTB shorts that keep me warm enough and scratch free on the trails and yesterday with ice on the ground I was still warm. Add in a Nike thermal top and cheap Dare2B over jacket and found some Fdx windprof gloves that work really well during the past 4 weeks sub zero conditions

I have avoided Sealskinz for years , as they were like cardboard and for girls ...
As I have feet that go numb as soon as the sun goes in, I have two pairs - I love them!
