I came back just after Christmas because of a family bereavement, Mrs S_L is still in China having had two flights cancelled, one in February, one in November (I'm still waiting for the refund for that one). So when Mrs S_L goes out she won't be bringing the virus back here for some time.

Shit, that sucks. Hope Mrs S_L gets home sometime soonish.

The In-Laws got a call yesterday to say their booster jab is now postponed until March. They were told all second jabs are being postponed so the vaccine program can be rolled out to more people quicker.

Agree with you, but the BBC web site makes absolutely no reference to this vaccination progress. Pretty poor for a so-called public service broadcaster, but unsurprising.

The BBC news (and probably others) never seems to do anything itself, it just prints wherever a select group of people say.
I'm not surprised the NHS and Labour can't bring themselves to say anything positive but I would have expected the government to blow their own trumpet.

I'm a Nurse working in a Hospital - We seem to be flying through the staff vaccinAtions at the moment .
In the wider community one can only hope that similar happens - we are doing staff walk ins as the more vaccinations done then the staff go quicker - I think the roll out of the Oxford jab has helped with its more friendly cold chain.
I just hope that the wider community can benefit from this.
If we are back to some semblance of normality next winter then hopefully when it comes to similar projects we can be as agile .

As of the 14th they had vaccinated 3.3 million people and were doing just over 300,000 a day. At that rate you're looking at just over 30 days to finish this nominal 15 million people, which would put you in mid-Feb...just as they said.

I think they're actually accelerating now though, if anything.

Other than Israel, which has effectively been a country on a war footing for the past 70 years, we do seem to be world leading on the vaccinations front. Roughly half of the entire world's gene sequencing on Covid is being done in the UK also.

I mentioned this to an SNP supporter and they reckon an independent Scotland would do better....forgetting that they were previously arguing for us to be part of the joint-EU response...that seems to have been appalling.

Yep - slow to pass for use, slow to procure, slow to start vaccination programs and have failed to convince public they need to have it. Something like 60% of Frances population have apparently said they aren’t going to have it..
