After Covid
So, let's assume
a) the assorted vaccines headed for the UK all work.
b) Boris & Co deliver, by the end of 2021 everyone who wants it has been vaccinated.[/list]
What will 2022 bring?
Will we all jet of around the world as before?
Will there be any airlines to take us, or hotels to accommodate us?
Will the rest of the world be safe too? Will they have variants of Covid that our vaccine doesn't protect against?
Will they welcome us, or will they be locked down and scared of strangers?

Re: After Covid
They are building a mahoosive hotel on outskirts of our town
And loads of bars etc are doing them up while it's quiet.
Obviously seeing a good future.

I'm planning many holidays asap.

Re: After Covid
I think there will a massive pent up demand to be fulfilled once the leashes that we are currently on get loosened a little.
Me included - first booking is April although that may be a bit optimistic.

Waived if you swap the intensively farmed peanuts for textured insect protein of course.
Loads of Hotels etc. are gonna go out of business, but it's gonna be party time for those that are left.

The number of airline staff who've been made redundant and aircraft mothballed, good luck on getting a flight anyway, or at a reasonable price. I don't know about recommissioning aircraft, but getting pilots back in means simulator training etc. so won't be a quick process.

Build them and they will come. There’s no issue booking flights for 2021, the summer schedules are already in place. Hopefully they’ll be able to fly.Horse wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 10:04 pmThe number of airline staff who've been made redundant and aircraft mothballed, good luck on getting a flight anyway, or at a reasonable price. Re: After Covid
That's why I've stocked up.
The green austerity is coming. No more fast fashion. No more drillings and making out you're the baddest man around. There will be a welcome return to the swish of the bicycle tyre and the writing of very long, formal letters to distant relatives.

There will be UK holidays. I thought we'd Brexited the rest away anyway. Cleethorpes, Scunthorpe, Blackpool etc. The scrottagy B&Bs and penny pier arcades with flourish.Horse wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 10:04 pmThe number of airline staff who've been made redundant and aircraft mothballed, good luck on getting a flight anyway, or at a reasonable price. Travel for the masses will be by charabanc.
Obviously those in the sustainable industries will still get to fly first class to the far east twice a year with unlimited cocktails, massages and full insurance on all boys damaged.

Re: After Covid
You may be right, I was guessing. BA alone got rid of 10,000 staff, 'retired' 31 Jumbo jets (some scrapped) and about 40 other aircraft are stored. Again, guessing, that's been repeated across the industry. Yorick's neighbours might be cracking on with a new hotel, getting there at a reasonable price might be a challenge.wheelnut wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 10:07 pmBuild them and they will come. Re: After Covid
But if/when they advertise 500/1000/10,000 vacancies they'll probably get quite a few good applicants!Horse wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 10:37 pmYou may be right, I was guessing. Re: After Covid
I’m going to eat out...every night.
Heck I’ve still got vouchers for a local hotel that I got given last March. Every time I remember I’ve got them the buggers are closed again.
Do you think they’ll still accept them in 2022?

Re: After Covid
We love our sunshine and warm seas etc, but as it stands, we're no going to go abroad this year. That may change, but at present we're in no rush to get crammed in with other people at airports and transfer transport etc. We may do some exploring of the UK, but it'll depend on the figures for covid in different areas. Like most people we know, this year is currently written off for holidays and we'll just enjoy meeting up with family and friends again.
