Too much faff for a 20 minute ride, I'm lazy. :D

What? and make it EVEN EASIER to steal?
inewham wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:07 pm How high is the gate. Would the bars on a tall dirt bike go over the gate posts?
6 foot. (well - about 5 and half, but the same effect).

You are approaching this the wrong way. You don't need a new bike, you need a new house

Yes, but not going to happen soon, and there are other reasons that doesn't work out (lack of houses within desired style/budget/location with garages)

Only one of my TDMs had issues and that was the one that you came to view with me. ;) My other TDM was uber reliable. OB doesn't have trouble with his 900, touch wood.

Exactly - you think I'd buy one with my vast TDM experience?

GS500s are alright, they're never gonna set the world alight, but you can get your knee down on them, CB500s and ER5s are similar better bikes

I know you said the gate width and the alley is narrow so that makes entry even harder as you need room to angle the bike through. I had the same dilema at the last house with a narrow gate and a small alley to fit the Multistrada into the back garden. The bar ends/mirrors were actually just wider than the gate but with some careful leaning and bar wiggling i could get the bike in using a sort of 3 point turn. It soon got fairly easy to do even in the pissing rain after a commute each day but on the plus side made it a pain in the arse to steal quickly
