Reading about all this 'volunteer army' being assembled to help out with the vaccinations. Is this just the usual 'It was The Sun wot won it?' bollocks is or there a practical role for gormless fuckwits like me to play in vaccination resistance movement?

I'd stick my hand up for it if I thought it would actually be something I could make a contribution to.

My rents already volunteer alot for the NHS at QA hospital in Portsmouth (they both took early retirement when they hit 60 a couple of years ago). They're doing vaccination stuff now.

Its all non medical stuff. They both worked in IT their whole careers so they are more tech savvy than alot of the other volunteers. Therefore they help quite a lot with patients making Skype calls to their family, booking stuff online etc. Hardly hard-core technical, but more than a lot of the volunteers can manage! They also do a fair bit of general old person wrangling and chatting.

They're looking into collecting people and bringing them to get jabbed...that's pretty labour intensive. I bet you can guess the biggest hurdle there: car insurance.

I heard pharmacist had expected to be giving jabs but had been ignored by the Gov. Any news on that or have we just skipped a few links and moved it over to the tabloid favourites and got the army to do it?

I see on the the news that Morrison's and 1 other are banning folk who aren't wearing masks and employing guards to enforce it.

(Masks are compulsory here everywhere outside the house apart from bars etc.)

Should folk in the UK be wearing masks anyway in supermarkets ?

They've been a requirement for months and months here, unless you've got the usual medical exemptions.

Nominally you can be fined for it but its just not been enforced. You're also not allowed to ask what medical exemption someone has, so they can just say "I'm medically exempt" with no need for proof.

I actually saw someone claim medical exemption today. While buying fags.

One of my brothers was pissing and moaning about "notgonnamakemewearamaskyabastards" a while ago but thats likely irrelevant cos I doubt the big baby ever gets the shopping in anyway.

It's very rare indeed to see anyone in a shop without a mask and all the shops stipulate that people wear masks.

Mind a few must be proper mouthbreathers cos they don't bother covering their nose.

Well thats the missus had her first vaccination jab this afternoon. She still has to be tested once a week with the "send it away" tests and at the beginning of every shift with the quick 20 minute result one. If they coincide on the same day then she has them both one after the other hence a sore throat this morning from being prodded for 2 covid tests Monday night shift.

3 months till she gets her 2nd jab now

As we were driving home the traffic has suddenly decreased since last week when it seemed normal service and looking at the supermarket car parks they have also suddenly more barren of cars. Looks like the message (here at least) is sinking in

Volunteering : you don’t have to jump through a thousand hoops for that- it’s just vaccinators who do. Marshall work/tapping in data to the national NIVVS database will be easy work and much appreciated.

Supermarkets: it’s been entirely advisory up until recently to wear a mask. Tonight at Sainsbury’s ( one of the big lot that haven’t yet insisted) had two in their door to get handing out masks.

S'been £100 fine since mid 2020, £200 for second offence, then 400 and so on up to £6400. I haven't heard of anyone actually being fined though.


There are some places where you must wear a face covering by law, unless you are exempt or have a reasonable excuse...

Not enforced, because they couldn’t. They still can’t, but public opinion changes quite quickly when 1500 chime dead on the daily death gong and there is clear evidence Supermarkets are a good source of getting it.

Christ alive, we lost the right to opt out of mask wearing in shops back in June I think.

I went to local big Tesco today once i dropped the missus off at home and for the first time a large bloke at the door questioning couples and sending one back to the car enforcing the "shop alone" rule. Local Asda now has people at the door as well but still has a large amount of non mask wearers with "i have a hidden disability" lanyard on although i did see one bloke with a lanyard on and a badge saying he was exempt from wearing a mask ....yet had a proper mask on ... go figure

Note: I do one trip to Tesco a week for stuff we need between delivery slots when we can get them and Asda for a couple of things on same run that Tesco dont sell then its back to the local village away from groups of people ..... seems our life is geared to not passing anything into her care home and so far (fingers crossed) no deaths or infections since Covid started there for her residents

Bit late ah.. I thought it was mandatory to wear masks in supermarkets for ages.

I don't know what conditions folks can't wear mask. Must be a "head one".. Asthma sufferers are ok, as long as the mask ain't too air tight.

Mrs irie has volunteered and been accepted to vaccinate gormless fuckwits like you.

By chance she was working in full PPE at a "secure*" hospital yesterday and was offered and given a jab (AZ). She had a thumping headache all night and very sore joints all over her body. But far better than getting the lurgy, of course.
