Roads Like Tracks?

Here's Hampshire's Gooseneck, between Tadly and Kingsclere.

There are little bits of road that me and two riding buddies have used as tracks over the years. No idea of the names/numbers though! A little route on the the Mendips and two of three routes from Chepstow to nearly Abergavenny

That's one I want to do (maybe not that fast!!) soon. I have friends who live in the direction of the end of it, so would be a cool way to go there

Being as I live in the land of road racing,it's always fun to ride the roads they race on. A fair few of them make you wonder HTF they fire litre bikes flat stick along them. Honestly,some of them are virtually single track roads and as rough as a (Derek) badger's arse. The Mid Antrim course in Clough gives you some of this perspective.

The NW200 doesn't hold much interest because you need to be flying and when you can't,well it's just a road. Better off down the coast.

The UGP Dundrod road circuit is a different kettle of fish. It's lovely when you go at a quiet time.

The road through the Eifel National Park to get to the Nurburg Ring was almost as good as the track itself.

This is Palmars Cross Hill, just outside Canterbury. It's much steeper than it looks in the photo. Has a hint of Eau Rouge about it Aside from the 40 limit, that is...

This is a bit like the corkscrew at Laguna, except with more leaves/mud on the road.

It's steeper than it looks, especially when you're cycling up from the other way!

There are lots of "racetrack" roads in west Britain that are well documented so I'll leave those. Here's a lesser known one instead. The tarmac is perfect and smooth and there is very little traffic - usually none. It's technical and twisty. The downside is there's sheep, quite a few of them. The land is owned by the military so you're not allowed to wander off and pick up unexploded stuff. When I first started going there it was all national speed limit and there were no road signs. I've ridden this road with some very experienced riders who've ended up on the run offs. I sent a group over it ahead of me once and they messed up so bad that I couldn't stop laughing enough to ride well myself. The speed limit is now 30 and 40 in places and they've added helpful road signs (like bend a head and chevrons - it was more fun without them ). Also, if you fancy doing it at 40 there's a fake German village created for army practice that you can see if you're looking for it. The first mile of the southern section is unique in Britain as it is the only national speed limit (70mph) single track in the country.

Don't know that one - I do know the road to the east from Brecon through Upper Chapel to Garth. Last time I did that one was on the way back from lunch at Devil's Bridge - we passed some squaddies lying in a puddle under a tarp with a sniper rifle at the side of the road. It was absolutely stair-rodding it down.

It's a fun one. Do it twice; once to enjoy and once for the scenery. You get a great view of the Black Mountain's profile when you go south (on a nice day).
