Re: VINTAGE SUNBEAM MOTORCYCLE
E Man formerly of the Visordown massive invited me down to a local vintage car and bike show a few years ago as he was showing off his dads Sunbeam. Lovely old bit of kit and he did ride it from time to time to keep it ticking over
Its a 1950 and i think from memory its a S6 or S7 model although its been a while since i spoke to him about it

Re: VINTAGE SUNBEAM MOTORCYCLE
We had a lengthy discussion about them on TRC, IIRC me and Tricky arguing (nicely) about the origins of the design, I remain convinced that it's a German design, or at the very least a design heavily influenced by German designs of WW2 era.
The S7 became very popular a few years ago and prices went up quite a lot, I haven't looked recently but I bet they haven't gone down much.
Sunbeam (from what I've read, etc) were always considered the posh end of motorcycling and the S7/8s were marketed as the ultimate luxury bike, when bikes were still daily transport for a lot of the working class.
I've come close to buying one a couple of times but I always hesitated because the Model 9 has been my dream Sunbeam for ages, so if I buy one then it'll be something like that, but I'm not sure I want to take on another bike where I can't get parts and have to faff around to get stuff done. I've just spent £1500 on the Rudge engine and that was only top end work - classic bikes hoover up time/money as quick as race bikes.
If we're talking about old school cool, then for me, motorcycling hit the pinnacle in the late 20's and the 30's. No one is ever going to be as cool as that guy sitting on (what was back then) a superbike, when superbikes were akin to space craft to most people.

Re: VINTAGE SUNBEAM MOTORCYCLE
A mate’s got a nice S7 in mist green. As mentioned they were marketed as a gentleman’s motorcycle- it looks just right with an old doctor’s bag strapped to the back

In the mid 80s in Stowmarket there was someone who used one for every day transport, used to see him on it every working day.
