Re: Portimao 29-31 May 2021. RTTL Extravaganza
I think one of the biggest stumbling blocks could be the need to isolate either at their end or the return.
It's not going to work if for example my lad had to take 10 days off school on his return. If the wife was back at work by then, I don't that'd fly for her either

With most of us being, shall we say, on the older side some may already have been vaccinated by then which you would hope would reduce the need for self isolation etc. I think by then the usual tourist countries will be crying out for trade especially areas like the Algarve so will be doing what they can to allow events to take place. I would expect a negative test certificate would get you into the area but the big question is what this countries bunch of clowns decide on return flights.
Assuming travel is on then i will be going and hoping work starts in a few weeks to pay for it all

It seems like I'm the most concerned out of all of us

Re: Portimao 29-31 May 2021. RTTL Extravaganza
Maybe not that you are the most concerned, but that others want to wait to make the decision or you are the most concerned this early!??!!
Also - it's your birthday celebration, so I'd kinda expect you to be thinking about it earlier than some!
As a comparison - I'd booked flights for my nephew to come out for Christmas and New Year. My sister started asking me in early October if she should tell him he couldn't come. I wanted to wait until much nearer the time. As it was, EasyJet cancelled one of the flights so I was able to change them quite late. I moved them to end of January thinking the resort might open for Feb holidays. But then, between Christmas and New Year I moved them again to March, just because it seemed unlikely to be open the week before holidays and I didn't want him out when it was busy!!
It's much easier to make decisions when nothing big is attached - like the tackday itself
Most others will be waiting to see if the track day can go ahead. And there isn't really any way of knowing that yet. I'd guess that in March you guys in the UK would have a much better idea if trackdays in Europe will happen by May
So, short version - don't think anyone else is less concerned, just that no one knows yet if it will go ahead? Or if there'll be quarantine? Or if EU countries will allow travel from the UK
Chill and give it another couple of months and then others will have more to offer to the discussion!!
Life is for living. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Ride the bikes. Just, ride the bikes!!

I missed out on Estoril for exactly this reason. Three days before the flight out the introduce the quarantine rule. Now checking the rules my family would not have had to stay in, just me. It made no sense to me so stupidly or over cautiously I lost all the money and didn't do the trip. If I have brought something back and spread it through them, particularly to my father in law who is 86 and COPD, then I wouldn't have forgiven myself .... and neither would the wife!weeksy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 8:57 pm I think one of the biggest stumbling blocks could be the need to isolate either at their end or the return.

There will be no guarantees for you. It could be fine on the way out and change whilst your there. This happened to bike vlogger TeaPotOne just before Christmas in the Canaries. Booking anything currently is a risk.

I hear ya Scotty. It's all a bit of a waiting game. The only thing that would suffer in honesty is the boys schooling. Hell, if we took out laptops to Portugal no one would ever know if we came back.
My concern is one of us getting it while there and bring stuck and being poorly in a foreign country rather than at home.
I also think the reality of a trip doing masks everywhere day and night would take a lot away from the trip, especially as we've got a few days both before and after booked for holiday stuff.
But the flip side of the coin, it's Portimao!!! It's an epic track and we both need a break, one with mates and motorbikes, well it doesn't get any better than that does it.
I'm sitting quietly in my hands until the end march and will see where we are then and make some decisions.

My crystal ball says...
the next few weeks will be very difficult, but once this phase passes and the vaccine gets rolled further, there will be light in the distance and the good times will return. Can't quite see which month though.

Don’t like the track but Gerard's at Malory fast tip in fast middle fast out and more important the only corner I have ridden that was long enough to enjoy the bend as it goes on for so long.
I will agree with yorick whilst again not a favoured track of mine the back kink at pembray is mega quick and scary at race pace but incredibly satisfying if you can go through there fast
Jerez is to me outstanding only turn 2 I would swap
Portima I liked but not loved but weather not great
Spa never been never will know but sounds from what people say and looks on videos awesome
Uk track I would pick donnington NATIONAL only track I can think of which has no stop starts just flows.
So to the original poster am useless so many good corners at so many tracks
But by thinking about it lots of happy memories

I'd love to say yes, but, not really.
We're in discussion over a new Portimao bike for Mrs Weeksy. Updates in next few days
