Anyone going to stop using WhatsApp?

Post by Rockburner »

Or do you not care about your personal data being shared even further?

Given that most of the users here have a FB account anyway I don't expect most will care that much tbh?

It does not matter one tiny bit for the individual. On the other hand, these few multi/multi billionaires are literally controlling the communications channels for virtually an entire planet. Don't like what someone has to say, censor it.

Bit of a double whammy when the same political movement is also controlling 99% of the mainstream media.

Not sure if this new rule allows individual encrypted messages to be intercepted?? I would hope not. Similar thing is going on on YouTube where a LOT of channels that weren't deleted have to deliberately not use certain words or the great algorithm will be upset.

I'm not that bothered, I haven't posted on FB for years and if Whatsapp has no way of paying for itself then it will start charging or be shut down.

I'm smug and complacent enough to carry on using it. I don't have an active FB account, I've four suspended ones as I won't give them enough information so they think I'm a bot. Neither do I peruse the web on my phone, the most will be one or two pages when needed.

What little info they get from me they are welcome to. If they start charging for it then I'll uninstall it and go back to texting. The only advantage it offers me over that is group chats and the ease of sending photos of cats.

Paying for their services would be the only thing to stop me using social media for my evil purposes.

It's my main form of contact with friends and family in the UK, so I'll keep using it!!

It doesn't really do anything that messenger doesn't, in some ways I wonder how it ever got off the ground ! ( I think they are both owned by FB ??)

WhatsApp started out independantly and was 'secure' from the outset, then got bought by FaceBook about 5 years ago. Some details in the article. (https://www.theregister.com/2021/01/06/ ... cy_demand/)

Stop? I'd have to start first.
