40,000 posts. Not bad at all in 9 months
Was just reviewing some of the stats, we've just hit 40,000 posts in 9 months. Which should mean we get 50,000 in a year.
I didn't really have a figure in mind when we set out on this road. But still, I think that's a decent number.
Next target is to hit 500 members.
It does confuse me when you see some forums which are way quieter than here but it shows them as having 20,000 members. Doesn't make sense, I'm assuming the majority are spam

Every time I hit refresh, I see a new post. So it keeps me amused. TRC in later days could be a post every hour or so.
Re: 40,000 posts. Not bad at all in 9 months
TRC was a hive of activity compared to this. Your memory is playing tricks on you.
You would increase your traffic gigantically if certain unmentionable world events could be discussed though I appreciate Weeksy, you don't want to allow this forum to stray in that direction. As such it will remain a dripping tap unless you want to open the taps.

I disagree completely. I think that would bring more traffic from certain posters, but wouldn't attract new content or new members. I think it would be for the worse rather than the improvement of the forum.DEADPOOL wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 11:29 pm TRC was a hive of activity compared to this. I'm a member on other forums too as you'd expect, recent days have shown members banned and threads locked with great regularity on them. Purely for that sort of reason. The longer we can keep it off this forum, the better it will be for the forum.

If politics was allowed here the posting would certainly go up but I don't think it would encourage new membership, just keep the moderators busier.
Its a shame not to discuss massive stories like Trump and the riots but where do you draw the line?
If I want to discuss it online, there are plenty of threads on FB where existing or former RTTL / TRC /VD members are posting exactly what you'd expect them to post!

Most folk can't discuss current affairs without ramming their political bias/hatred down your throat.

I doubt Weeksy would be concerned that anyone expressed how appalled they were by what happened- but it's the subsequent shitstorm that inevitably follows which drags everything down.
Even bland can be a type of character

Re: 40,000 posts. Not bad at all in 9 months
Is the correct answer. I'm not going to insta-ban a thread or a topic like that, but i don't see it going well.
Funnily enough over on PB forum there's similar discussions and debates as the forum owner/Admin is stepping down and disucssions are on there about what's right, wrong, allowed, not...
It's all down to personal interpretation. We allow swear words, they don't.... they have massive boobie thread, we don't...
The allow all discussions, but some get moved to Room 101 section.... We try and keep them off the board completely.

Self moderated swearing is working well on here, if new people don't see much then they are less likely to do it. I hope it never gets to the point that blocking it is required as used sparingly it can be good.
We just need personal insults self moderated a bit better and we could open up the contentious topics again.

There should be an average "likes per post" score too

And I completely agree with your statement of course. I say "IF A THEN B" and you say I don't want B.weeksy wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 7:23 amI disagree completely. The upshot is there are very few places on the internet where you can reasonably discuss a contentious topic. Forget facebook, you dare not question anything. Views on particular subjects are extremely polarised, worse even than Br*xit. Either you agree unquestionably with your FB friend, or they kick you off their friend list.
YouTube take a similar approach to content, if they don't like it they either kick out the entire channel or heavily moderate exposure. Google then controls the distribution anyway.
The end result will be worldwide communication is controlled by a mere handful of people (big tech left wing oligarchs) and they decide what is newsworthy and what is true. That worries me.

Because the like is an add in extension, the admin control panel doesn't record/list them.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 11:47 amThere should be an average "likes per post" score too

I would like that, but that would drive your average up.

I probably have one of the worst likes/post ratio. For some reason I don't get manyMr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 11:54 am I would like that, but that would drive your average up.

Make one. As has been proven here, it's not hard. We wanted a forum, 48 hours later one appeared. Sure it's taken effort and time to tweak it, but I could make one in a day easy.DEADPOOL wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 11:48 amAnd I completely agree with your statement of course. Re: 40,000 posts. Not bad at all in 9 months
Just for fun, here're the ratios of the top 5 posters (manually worked out) plus weeksy. This is likes per post, so higher is better.
weeksy - 0.491
Yorick - 0.461
Horse - 0.489
KFB - 0.624
Skub - 0.800
Me - 0.575
So clearly, everything Skub says is gold.
