TBH I think anyone attempting to belittle or dismiss the opinions of others by calling them whinging or moaning (or any pejorative term) is pretty poor; and if anything weakens the validity of their own viewpoint rather than the one they are attempting to undermine.

I also don't see that people expressing left wing opinions is bad. Nor that older people nor those without a bike should be denied a voice.

Yep, and despite what a fairly non-representative poll here says, so are most people in my experience. Of course nobody wants the restrictions, of course people are fed up with it, and of course people sometimes have the need to express dissatisfaction with the situation, but for you to high handedly dismiss the population of the UK as "whiners and moaners" whilst spouting more self-aggrandising bollocks will always provoke the reaction you want
I'm not addressing the whole of the UK, I'm addressing the two thirds of you saying "I'm not fighting the virus, I'm fighting the rules".
I just don't get it, it winds me up.

But yeah, I'm the problem here, I can see that, I've always been very highly motivated and I get frustrated with people that make excuses for not being where they want to be. I can't watch Benefits Britain programmes without shouting at the telly. I don't get people that use others as excuses for poor performance and frankly I dislike you intensely. (not you Nidge, the people doing that, IYSWIM)
That's not going to change and I can't keep my trap shut.

Rather than disrupt what you want this place to be it would be more gracious of me to leave you to do it.
It's a flounce but no hard feelings, be lucky
Much as I liked / like Potter, he does seem to be responding to the suggestion he high handedly dismissed a large sector of a population as "whiners and moaners" whilst spouting more self-aggrandising bollocks by high handedly dismissing a large sector of a population as "whiners and moaners" whilst spouting more self-aggrandising bollocks.

I hope he doesn't really go / comes back though.

I thought the TWOC'y and snide thread was more risible. I guess the dishwasher one was more genuine.

I do hope so, every time I log in here this thread is back to the top with more bickering. The only other improvement would be a few of the members who drag almost every thread down to ming-mong-ping-pong disappearing for a week or so too. New forum, same old posters poking each other for a rise. I honestly don't know why Weeksy bothers with having a General Mayhem forum sometimes.
I'm not sure there's a choice Badger. We can't realistically expect this place to survive based purely on motorbikes. It will just go stale and die. There's only so many Bike Exif bikes i can find to post.

The CV19 is massively at the top of peoples minds and should be able to be discussed. But i'm afraid i'm reaching the end of my tether with monitoring and doing anything about it now.

I can see why WB said "fuck it" and bailed on TRC put it that way...

I live in hope that people will actually grow up and stop being such fucking idiots and actually not use their internet persona but their actual human one. Lets be honest here, if we use the pub analogy, half of this thread would have meant one than one person picking up their teeth from the floor.
But actually, it would never happen in reality because no-one would speak to others in real life the way they do online. It just wouldn't happen, you wouldn't force your opinions on others i the same way.

I don't have the answer fella... i really wish i did... but i can't give you a decent solution. I don't think throwing the ban hammer about is it. I currently have all 3 of the Moderators telling me to press the ban button on a user, but i'm trying not to.

That said... there is an answer. You all post 5X the content but just about bikes, you all do that and i'll ban everything from Brexit to Bake-off and anything and everything else from ever being discussed.

Once upon a time i said i wanted to build a community here, a bunch of friends and back to the old days...

I'm not sure how many of you paid attention to that.
Let it go mate, it's a small part of the place and its flourishing elsewhere and even in General really. Certain people are always going to get more vocal and wind each other up, but they all bring something good to the table got other threads too. Iccy is always going to be on the wind up as he lives in Dubai, so he cant exactly go out in the street saying the things he does on here or he'd get beheaded or 25 years etc. ;) :D Honestly, when its gets a bit much on some threads, I normally jump ahead a page of two and its passed, well for a while anyway. I suspect others do the same. Can't believe people are that precious they actually report it! :wtf:

Talking of moaning the local news loves to interview people saying how the rules are unfair on certain groups. Today it was unfair on children and young people, what young people watching that will take away is the rules aren't fair so why should they obey then.

All rules are unfair, they can't be tailor made for every minute detail. The more people they deal with the more unfair elements there will be.

Sometimes it is more unfair on you, sometimes it ain't.

C'est la vie.

From a friend working in a hospital “previously it was mainly old folks, but now, I think about 60% of our current severe COVID cases are under 50, several under 45 and with the new variant, anyone who thinks the stats are over stated should come and work my shift”

Tbh I’ll take her word on it rather than some random internet ‘expert’ with no medical knowledge.

~ 830 deaths, the overwhelming majority of which are 80 years old or over.
Out of interest, do we have figures for the lower age groups, overall or recent/current, i don't mind.
Probably relevant data on the ONS web site.

Scotsrich wrote: Tue Jan 05, 2021 5:11 pm We were on holiday when our practice was doing flu jabs so we got them done by the local chemist.

The NHS had asked them to take up the slack but they were struggling to get enough vaccine.

In the end we paid 12 quid apiece and had it done privately so that was a couple of NHS ones that someone else could have.

I can't see why chemists can't do the Covid ones but the big drawback is they aren't connected up to the NHS database. When we had the flu ones done we were ages while they asked us a whole raft of info that would have already been available in our surgery.

The flu jab ais t the doctors is normally walk in..give your name...roll your sleeve up...jab then walk out.

Possibly the reason why.
Our practice was very slow in offering flu jabs last year, so this year we rang Boots, booked an appointment, and were done (free - we are over 65) back in September. Not sure if the info gets fed back to the NHS, but we haven't been asked to have our flu jabs yet. They have now suspended doing them 'because of Covid'.

On the other hand our practice is in the forefront of doing Covid-19 jabs. The cynic in me wonders if the £10 per Covid jab payment to GP practices has anything to do with it.

When you say old days, I suspect your glasses may be a little bit rose-tinted. VD was a bear pit at times, and TRC in the early days before it became a forum of circular, ever decreasing threads.

The bickering had never stopped people being friends IRL though (with a few exceptions), I think we’re all evidence of that.

I remember when someone was in trouble in the day, people would drop anything, if someone fell on hard times the forum would have piles of cash for them, if someone had a broken bike, it'd be fixed the next day. The nights out drinking beers, the days out riding bikes.

Sure there were arguments, but back in the day it had 'something' else too.

I think it still has the 'something else', as well as all the hassle. Personally, I didn't post much about my (head) issues till recently - when I did I received a number of PMs offering support, phone numbers given for me to call if I felt I had nowhere to turn, and generally awesome messages. Someone here has offered to take the Monster and get it running for me to ride in the summer

There is still a really good feeling here. Yes there is bitchiness (and TBF I nearly left TRC early on because of some comments and PhyschoBikerBen on VD told me I had to ignore stuff or MTFU!!! so not much has changed!!) - but please don't think the kindness and support isn't here

Once lockdown is over and life can be more 'normal' (I know normal is relative!) then there will be nights out drinking beers and days out riding bikes and meets at tracks again

Right now is a difficult time for a lot of people and it may look as if people aren't as caring/close as we have seen elsewhere in the past. But looks, I think, are deceiving

I think some elements of that still continue, they're just not publicised. I'm sure that if someone was known to be in difficulty, there would be help. Also, the demographic has changed, early VD adopters are now 20+ years older, with all that accompanies that.

Bit of a segue back to covid but... is there any reason why UK airports don't heat checks at arrivals/departures like a lot of other countries already do? Prior to the lockdown my neighbour was away on business and felt it gave a bit of confidence to him and fellow passengers, which he didn't really feel on the way back.
