How about "what £4000 bike for the odd sunny ride when you feel like getting on a motorbike?"

My 350 YPVS when it's finished, if the crank seals are okay it should be built for under £4K, but it won't look like a new one, people are asking £9K for fully restored ones, though I think you could buy a nice one for £6K.

Newer bikes don't really appeal to me, but if I had to, it would be an SV or an XSR700, for tootling about on a summer's day I want something upright and relaxed, and preferably light.

The fact that I already own one of these has nothing to do with it. These are a genuine allrounder, able to take you and the missus to the south of France or to do a track day with equal ease. This one is overpriced by at least £500 and has been owned by someone who was more concerned with blinging it out than improving its road manners. The fact that it still has the awesomely shite Sachs blue spring shock fitted after nearly 20k miles tells you that. So - knock £500 off the asking price (or more if you're a good haggler), fit an Ohlins shock off an RSV Factory of the same era, acquire and fit a set of OZ racing forged ali wheels (also off an RSV Factory) and spend the remainder on new tyres and a fork revalve/respring. Sorted.

Oh yes (and most important) if it still has the OE side stand, throw it away and replace with either a Honda Blackbird or Honda Fireblade (2006/7) Item.

It's a lot of money for a 15 year old Italian motorcycle

That one is seriously over-priced. Normal going rate for one with 20-30k on it is £1200-£1800 depending on condition and spec. It has to be a proper good one to fetch more than £2000. They're roughl half to two-thirds of the price of an RSV Mille of similar age/condition.
