Zebby is also a heathen who wares his watch on his dominant hand IIRC.

I don't have a watch worth mentioning, but what's wrong with wearing a watch on the dominant hand?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 2:41 pm Zebby is also a heathen who wares his watch on his dominant hand IIRC.
I think I wear mine on my right hand because my Mum does (although she's a leftie!). Either she put my watch on that wrist or I copied her!!
But I've never known why it's so wrong?

It was Zebby with his IWC that cost about the same as a terraced house in the north of England.
They said the vibrations from his bike might have buggered it. If you think about it, a mechanical watch is a delicate bit of kit.
But my pop swatch was digital and it knackered it fairly quickly, a few weeks of daily use IIRC.
I thought IWCs were more expensive than that

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
Because yer dominant hand is usually holding/swinging/doing something and that makes turning your wrist to see the time a bit tricky. Also you use your dominant hand more (obvs) so a watch on that wrist is more likely to get damaged - see also vibes above.Noggin wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 5:26 pmI don't have a watch worth mentioning, but what's wrong with wearing a watch on the dominant hand?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 2:41 pm Zebby is also a heathen who wares his watch on his dominant hand IIRC.

That makes sense. Not that it ever caused me an issue!!moth wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 8:05 amBecause yer dominant hand is usually holding/swinging/doing something and that makes turning your wrist to see the time a bit tricky. A friend bought me a lovely silver watch (no idea of the brand, but not 'that' posh!) for my 40th and years before someone gave me a Swatch watch. I've still got both but I very rarely wear either - well, can't remember the last time I did!!! Possibly cos both need new batteries!
I know, I'll step away! I have nothing to offer to the thread!

I love auto watches, and I like a display back, but I've never been a lover of skeleton watches. Don't know why.cheb wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 7:51 am How about one with a square gear wheel:

He used to buy one every few years on the never never.Harry wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 4:29 amAccording to the tracker thing I have my collection has gone up by 23% overall in the last 12 months.Yorick wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 1:38 pm A pal here has several expensive watches. He never wore them coz the looky looky men sold perfect replicas for 20€.
His wife died a few months ago and now he's given them to his daughter in UK to sell for him.
He reckons about £60k which will allow him to fund a move to a better house.
Some have gone up by a few percent, some by much more.

Lots of the highstreet dealers offer low or even zero rate finance on them....they'll massively outstrip that in growth if you get the right ones!

It's a GBD-100. It cost more than my Dad got for his house in Burnley.
Although my Dad sold that house in 1956.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
I use the same and am seeing circa 30% increases.Potter wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 10:16 am At the start of lockdown I used a website tracker application for watches (Chrono24), you input what you paid and the details, etc, then it tracks their value in the used market and gives you the average selling price and how yours have done against it.
I put a couple in that I bought last summer just out of interest - anyway, I've just logged in and the appreciation averages out at +26%
I don't know of many easy investments to make that pay those sort of returns, e.g. if you'd dropped 30k into them you'd come out with 7.6k appreciation after about eight months, although selling them might be a hassle.
Its good for me as my wife is director of an IFA business and as she can see a quantifiable return she's happy for me to spend however I have made it clear that I'm not selling

If instead of delivering insults in the "Astrazeneca/Oxford" thread you had kept it "civil and sensible" that thread would not have been locked. Again.

Today's watch - this is my daily wearer at the moment
Nice little microbrand - seiko movement. The bezel is rotated by a second winder and it has a decent quality to it which belies the price.

Re: The Official Watch Thread.
The accuracy is fine. Time loss isn’t noticeable. It is a fairly baisc movement, but it does hack and seems to have a good reserve. For the cost, it’s a decent movement,
The pics don’t do the dial justice, it’s a lovely dark green with sapphire glass. The size is good for me at 42mm but if there’s a criticism it’s that is a bit deep at 15mm.
