Not really one for me, but I like the work that's gone into it.

Swingarm is too long and I don't like the matt paint but otherwise it's ok.
Exhaust headers are interesting, in the first picture they look like straight lengths of pipe but the other pictures show that they're not. Rather clever

Standard problem on these kids of bikes isn't it. The swingarm/final drive would be fantastically expensive to customise so you're stuck with what BMW made originally.
If you fit dinky 60s style bodywork you inevitably end up with a frame that's too big. You need to 'scale up' the rest of the bits so its all in proportion.

Pity the fairing slipped under the rear wheel.
I like some of these old boxer ideas.

Re: KNOCKOUT: BOLT’S CUSTOM R100RT BOXER
Did anyone every do a chain conversion for a BMW? I think Magni did MVs but not sure about BMs. Wouldn't mind my Le Mans converting to chain drive. All this talk about lighter wheels in another thread makes me think of the unspring weight of the Le Mans with cast iron disks and the bevel drive must be getting on for 30KG.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 10:29 am

Are you actually going to ride it hard enough that it will make a difference?GuzziPaul wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 11:40 amDid anyone every do a chain conversion for a BMW? Well yeah...unless you're in a one make classic race it'd make more sense to just get a modern bike!
I dunno why custom builders don't just fit bigger bits to these bikes. If you look at Nidge's "real" and modern classic Triumphs they both have very similar looks and proportions but the newer one is much bigger.

One other thing about this one is that off the stand the engine will be canted backwards relative to the floor, which always looks really odd.

I bet they realised that, hence the nifty rear stand.Rockburner wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 12:24 pm One other thing about this one is that off the stand the engine will be canted backwards relative to the floor, which always looks really odd.

I have an Aprilia Tuono as a modern bike. The Le Mans gets ridden relatively hard as it has about half the performance of the Tuono. Whilst a shaft drive may not need regular lubing like a chain, maintenance is expensive. I did a full bearing and seal replacement in October and that was £200 just in bits. The bevel drive has an oil change every year and thats about £20 a time. The UJ will also need replacing soon as they seem to have a life of around 50K and the bike has about 44K on it.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 12:20 pm Well yeah...unless you're in a one make classic race it'd make more sense to just get a modern bike!
But no, I don't need to do a conversion just to for the extra performance it would give me.

IanB recently acquired one of these; the R1200S.
Its a great looking bike in the flesh, has Ohlins at both ends and puts out about 125bhp. A smaller / trad front fairing and leaner seat unit and it would be streets ahead of the OP in looks as well as performance (IMO)

I kind of like those, but I think I prefer the 1100S styling, the 1200 is a fair chunk faster tho'G.P wrote: ↑Sun Jan 03, 2021 4:35 pm IanB recently acquired one of these; the R1200S.

Friend of mine had this delivered late summer with plans to café racer it, almost too good to chop IMHO.
