Forum Colour
On the old site I'm a big fan of the colour choice "Old School Grey/Blue". If you've not noticed it, go the home page, scroll right to the bottom, on the very left the last thing you'll see is the colour choices in a drop down menu.
On Chrome I've got a plugin installed called Greyscale, I've deployed it here. A more subtle colour option would be appreciated at some point in the future if it's not too

Re: Forum Colour
More subtle than this... Hmmm i thought this was about as subtle as it gets in honesty.
https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/styles-2
Here's the list of available styles.... If you'd like me to demo one, i'm more than happy to.
I'll have to work on multiple style choices, but i can easily default the board for a couple of hours to a set style.
The only problem we may run into is with out various extensions, many are built for Prosilver, which is the default style for phpBB and the one we currently use, so some of the functionality may not work in a new style.
But, have a look through, throw out some suggestions and we'll see what can or cannot be done

Re: Forum Colour
Right, so you now have the option within your control panel (click on your name, top right)
UCPsettings by Steve Weeks, on Flickr
So you can see you can select other choices (This was disabled)
I'll potentially add one more today but if anyone has a specific request then feel free to ask.

Top work boss man.
Not only is the black theme easier on the eye, but it moves the poster info from the right over to the left :ugeek:
Edit; although it does make the smilies look a wee bit rubbish

Re: Forum Colour
The main reason for changing the colours / theme for most people was to 'hide in plain site' in an office environment.
I agree that the layout of the Black style is better - it uses the space on the window/screen better.
I also get why Weeksy doesn't want to mess with it too much, the colour scheme messes with not just the colours but the layouts and configs of the board (the underlying 'chassis' of the website if that analogy works?). This means that some plugins won't work straight off (where they would on the default colours and layout).
Given that each 'theme' would have it's own knock-on consequences I'm hesitant to suggest any changes simply because I don't want to cause any grief, and the requirement for an 'in-office' theme is not as important at the moment.

Re: Forum Colour
It's not a question of what i want to do in honesty, it's a question of what's possible. I don't have the software or the knowledge to take a theme and edit it myself, i have to rely on what other people have created, same with things like smilies/emojisRockburner wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 10:24 am The main reason for changing the colours / theme for most people was to 'hide in plain site' in an office environment.

Over on TRC there was the option to hide the banner, we don't have that here. I could make the banner way less intrusive, but the problem with that is that i'm trying in some ways to make something of the forum and for that it needs some identity, so the banner is part of the identity.
phpBB 3.3 (our version) is relatively new, so not all of the style, extensions and code work within it, so again, i'm restricted with what i can or cannot deploy.
All that said, i'm more than happy to try themes etc... If you see something you like, ping it up and assuming its' compatible with our version etc, i'll more than likely try it.

Re: Forum Colour
Black, naah. Weird colour thing with the red and blue and my simple country ways were baffled by the lack of writing near some of the icons, made it harder to find stuff. I could get used to that but I can't be bothered.
Bombed it off and went back to my safezone otherwise known as Prosilver which has OK colours and everything seems to be more or less where I've expected it to be.
Its not so much hat I fear change, more that I can't be trashed working out where stuff has moved to.

Elegance steel blue works for me. It's made the font bigger, or appear bigger. It's means I don't need to magnify to 110%.
