Went out for a 130 very cold miles yesterday (1c to 4c). Met up with a good biking buddy who you just can't trust to stay on main routes so yes, I saw mud, iced over puddles, frost and mossy bits. I had to ride with my visor up for a while as it kept getting dirty - have you ever wondered if your eyeballs can freeze and if they do, would your contact lenses fall out? It was therapeutic getting out even so.

My big bike won't see these shitty, salty roads anymore, that's what the little bike is for. But ye, its great to get out.

Sure its fine.
Its just the chevron tread patterns points 'with' the direction of rotation on the rear and 'against' on the front.
There will be an arrow on the sidewall which confirms.

Tips for cleaning radiators #1 Wait until it's a very warm and dry day and brush it out with a toothbrush. It has to be an extremely dry and warm day though, the likes of which we only get once or twice a year in the UK.

Went out for a steady 20 mile ride today - sorry, no pics.
Was a little chilly to say the least(-3 according to the clocks) and wet, slippery and icy in places. Only did it because, other than the cold, it was quite a nice day.
Main bugbear was having to wash the crap off when I came back - must invest in one of those dog driers if I'm gonna make a regular thing of riding at this time of the year.
Did make me wonder how I managed to do serious mileage back in the day in similar weather and without the luxury of heated grips...

Happy New Year to you all.....if the rest of the biking year is as good as today it'll be a cracker! In the slanting sunshine here we are taking a break at Comrie, parked in front of a rare domestic building by Charles Rennie MacIntosh. The only drawback to the day is washing the bike down afterwards!

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
I'm seriously impressed at all the guys 'n gals still riding at this time of year (unless you're in the Southern Hemisphere, of course). Once the temps dip below about 10 degrees C I really can't be @rsed with it. That, and cleaning off all manner of crud from the bike after even a short ride.
The last time I rode a bike was in mid-November, when I took the LC out to Buxton and back as part of its running in. 300 miles under its wheels since a total engine rebuild (new pistons/rebore, most of the crank replaced and all the cases vapour blasted and powder coated). It's now got both wheels out and sent off to C J Ward in Burton for powder coating back to original. I doubt it will turn a wheel much before March/April.

I don't quite get why folk ride a decent bike during the salty season.
From the mid 70s I always used to buy a 'winter hack' to keep my proper bike looking half decent,it didn't take me long to realise the cost of piddling about on shitty/salty roads was more punitive than the price of a running shitter.
In later years I had an SH300i for those duties. Nowadays I just don't ride in the Winter.

Another FWB here. I've done my time riding through rain, gales, fog, ice and snow. These days I take the car.
Given that most of England is in Tier 4, and Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland have similarly restrictive regulations I would have trouble justifying having a ride for fun even if the weather was good. Not judging anybody else, you can do what your conscience allows you to do.

The only reason I don't ride in winter is I'd spend an hour riding and 2 washing. I hate washing bikes. I'd happily ride someone else's bike in winter though

Re: When/Where/Pics was the last time you rode your bike ?
I ride all year to avoid having to "get back into it" in the spring and most days I would still rather be out there than in here. I also hate cleaning my bike and have paid others to do it when I've had the opportunity. I get through a couple of cans of ACF each winter and I'm fed up with clogged radiators but there's not a lot I can do about it. I'm about to go clean it now and not looking forward to it as its 4c out there now and even with my Marigolds on, my hands are going to get freezing.
