Go on, it won't kill you. I'm full on Tory scum and it hasn't harmed me.
In a rushed acceptance of these shortcomings, the Nightingales were thrown up. But what was undoubtedly an impressive feat of engineering and teamwork failed to take into account the number of trained staff that would be required to make them work. Ventilatory support and critical care is a highly specialised area of medical care and cannot be delivered by volunteers.
Diluting staff within our already overstretched hospitals to get the Nightingales running appears a fantasy. As hospitals deal with their own staffing crises every day, as staff self-isolate or are themselves off with Covid, their existence is little more than a totemic placebo.
I'm going to go with an optimistic
"yeah but since they started building them, they've been training up people to work in them"

Maybe overly optimistic.... but i'm a cheery guy
Well she's better placed to know the reality than you or I, but we need optimists. Carry on.
Without looking at it, it's the Tory government's fault for running the NHS into the ground and not planning for pandemics properly. Until they are needed there will be lots of people saying it can't be done and NHS trusts saying they can't release any staff. If it gets to the state they are needed I suspect trusts will stop whining and work together to make it all work even if involves less qualified staff.

"Hospitals and ambulance services are struggling with a staff sickness rate two to three times higher than usual, as growing numbers of NHS workers fall ill or go into isolation amid a huge surge in Covid infections." https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... sual-level
The number of nurse vacancies in the NHS in England has increased to a record high, latest data reveals. In the first quarter of 2019-20, 12% of full-time equivalent registered nurse posts in the provider sector were empty, equating to 43,617 missing staff.
I doubt that all of those have been filled, which won't help.
They stood the Nightingales up previously without having sufficient trained resources ( one of the reasons they were pretty empty).
Two London hospitals have just gone into emergency medicine mode, one being the Royal London. That’s urgent care only. More will follow. The staff at these hospitals are also exhausted/ getting ill, as are the paramedics etc who serve them.
They’ll stand up the excel Nightingale, but we haven’t trained thousands of new resp’ staff since March and won’t be able to staff it again. They’ll probably stay open for longer this time, but don’t be under any delusion that they’ll serve as anything other as massive cordon zones. You’ll likely get very intermittent treatment and your final days will be surrounded by other people suffocating to death with nothing but a flimsy bit of board between cubicles to drown out the noise.
It’s shameful to see how many conspiracy fools are still suggesting this is gaslighting. I’m all for being slightly paranoid and sceptical but if your actions are likely going to negatively impact on the well being of others, you should be launched into orbit.

Infection levels in Havant are more than twice where we live just 10 miles away to the east.
Because I know people who live there (including a grand daughter), I can tell you for a fact that that these are being caused by an almost complete lack of mask wearing, social distancing, or hygiene measures.
There will never be enough hospital capacity to deal with the explosion in infections that occur with this lack of compliance with even basic measures, let alone after NYE celebrations!
People like this are launching the hospital system into orbit.

WTF do we do though ? MAybe some adverts of people dying on TV ? A bit more of people being on respirators ?
Why do people not grasp the situation ? I mean i know 5-8 people who've had it and been tested positive, none have died and they've not really had a terribly hard time. But the simple fact is, it doesn't seem very nice, so i'd rather not ! Why do some many seem completely ambivalent toward it ?
A lot of people are below the mean average intelligence.
I'm not having that.... I'm not having it that people can't comprehnd the numbers of dead and think "oh, that could be me"
There's not being intelligent and there's being downright fucking stupid... They can't be THAT stupid....
I dunno, i'm just struggling with the whole concept that people are going round to houses, throwing parties, meeting up, etc... I mean, come on, i'm not having it.

You can have it or not, but that is what they are doing.
