I'm going to England
It seemed like a good idea last night after a few glasses of wine. Channel tunnel is booked for the end of July, back early August with a week of camping in between. I'll be on the Super Duke so it could be a two week holiday near a KTM dealer in France waiting for spares, or not visiting anyone because the bikes been stolen. I'm going to leave three days to ride from my house in Alicante so a campsite somewhere near the tunnel, with the train on day 4. Campsite in England is booked, I'm looking forward to it.

Make sure you pack a decent lock and preferably a big chain. England is full of scroats.Pirahna wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2026 2:31 pm It seemed like a good idea last night after a few glasses of wine. Re: I'm going to England
It's now 20:17 and I'm off in the morning for an 8 hour ride to a hotel in northern Spain. There's a warning for extreme heat, I'm expecting 45⁰ on the way and I've been in a bar with a couple of mates for the evening. I'm pissed, nothing is packed, and I'm just going to lube the bike chain. Wish me luck.

Made it to the first nights hotel, 630km today and I'm knackered. Camping for the next two weeks, I think I'll stay here on the way back, it's nice.

Re: I'm going to England
I made it to France yesterday, about 400km with no motorways. Spent the night at a campsite specifically for bikers. They provided dinner and will shortly be cooking breakfast. I'd stay here again. Linky below:

Re: I'm going to England
I'm staying on a campsite north of Le Mans tonight. There's not much around so I've been to the supermarket and bought some stuff to cook.
It's been about ten years since I visited France, I used to get by in French but have forgotten almost everything. I suppose I can always resort to speaking slowly and shouting.
I don't remember there being so many 70kmh speed limits, they're everywhere. As are pizza vending machines, have the French forgotten how to cook?

The campsite on North Uist has a vending machine with 24 hour availability that stocks, amongst other things, Stornoway black pudding.

Re: I'm going to England
Last night in France, tunnel tomorrow. Lots of straight roads though flat wheat fields today, not the most interesting landscape. Twenty minutes before I arrived at the campsite it pissed down. First time riding in the rain for a few years.

I think there's someone on the other side that gives you the lighted cigarette.
