Original piston without puck: 30.62mm
Original with puck: 34.75mm

New, without puck: 31.67mm

Will that still work, or is there a risk the pistons could pop out when the pads get low?

I'm gonna call BrakeCrafters today... There isn't enough room for the pistons to fall out

Spoke with the brake co, good to go. Apparently those pucks make the calipers run hotter than without.

Ok, I cheated a bit, the metal sleeves that fit inside the rubber grommets for the grab rail are sitting in the Evaporust right now, so it's not bolted on...
and there are still two small cracks to fix in the tail doodad.
and I need an M4 & M5 tap to chase some threads in various parts, including the strakes. (just ordered)

Today's plan was:
Fit exhaust
Fit carb manifolds
Change oil/filter
Fit carbs
Fit pods
Get it running...

What actually happened was:
Left my goddamn glasses at home

Put the tail on for a pic..
Put the tail back in the car
Dumped oil & filter
Moved bike under the swamp cooler
Installed the stud that came out with the nut when I took the exhaust off.
Installed ignition cover
Discover the manifolds don't fit...The engine side is the right size, the carb side is the right size, but the fucking holes for the M6 Allens that bolt it to the head are too far apart...
Came home.

So now I need to drive out to APE in Rosamond next week & see if they have the right manifolds. Probably keep the wrong ones because they will fit other Kaw heads.

& Yes, the oil filter gubbins is assembled correctly.

Most Kaw's are: plate, spring, washer, filter, cup

These are: plate, cup, spring, washer, filter.

I have no idea why.

Removed 4 brake pad clips from a GPz900R front end at the salvage yard. Cost me $200...

Luckily I'm pretty flush right now... so I tipped him another $300

Took a drive out to Willow to return the carb manifolds that didn't fit the GPz750.... Turns out they sold me ones for the GPz11/J/ELR.

Good news & not so good today:
Good news:
Box of GPz750 gubbins arrived after it was bought two weeks ago, First there were issues paying the seller, then I got ghosted after he got the $$. Thought I'd been scammed out of $65.
Well worth the wait as the parts pile had a front m/c which I really need, plus I spotted a flasher relay in the pile that I need for the GPz11.
Box also contained some foot pegs, a pair of PERFECT front brake calipers, front brake & clutch levers, complete rear m/c (which saves me overhauling the other two I have) & a bunch more really useful stuff including helmet/seat locks, engine mounts etm.
Well chuffed!!!

Bad:
Mate whose shop the 750 is at is going on vacation until Sept so it will be locked away for at least 5 weeks.

...which also means the '81 1100 will have to come to the house until he gets back.. and she doesn't know about that bike yet.
