Mesh Jackets
I usually wear a light weight brown Dainese leather jacket but I'm going to Spain next week and the weather guessers are saying 37c, so started thinking about a mesh jacket.
I was going to buy the Oxford Arizona Air 2 jacket in a lovely shade of brown, but they didn't have the brown in my size, I almost bought the grey. Then the shop assistant brought out a RST Spectre in navy blue, it felt much nicer so I bought it.
Just like this one, but it somehow looks nicer irl...

I picked up a pair of black AStars Reef V2 gloves too (my current summer gloves are brown leather and they'd look silly with a blue jacket),

I'll let you know how I get on with a weeks time!

Re: Mesh Jackets
I also ended up buying the Oxford one, but the ladies version for the wife.
As she preferred it to the MotoGirl mesh jacket I bought her a fortnight ago, d'oh.

Re: Mesh Jackets
This on my "winter buy" list - along with some sort of air bag thingy !!
After being in the valley this summer, a mesh jacket is 100% required!!!

Re: Mesh Jackets
I've got a Furygan Atom vented jacket, it fits well and isn't hot to wear, I have my doubts about it's crash protection

Re: Mesh Jackets
I've been out in my new jacket today. You get a lovely breeze through, even just stood still in the garden.
I've realised that the blue makes me look a bit like a Fronch rozzer.
The gloves are great too.

I've realised that the blue makes me look a lot like a French tosser.
The gloves are great too.

Re: Mesh Jackets
Mesh jackets are great. But if you're not taking a second jacket on your tour you'll need a waterproof jacket to go over it, and probably a windstopper layer, that is breathable but not waterproof (eg pertex) to go with it. That should cover all conditions. Sorry if that's obvious.

Re: Mesh Jackets
So around 30c you stop feeling the benefit from the wind chill, I suppose it's still cooler and more comfortable than a traditional jacket.
I won't be needing waterproofs.
If it does rain, I'll look forward to getting soaked, it will still be 35+ where I'm heading.

Re: Mesh Jackets
Skin temperature is typically 34C, so minimal cooling as air temperature approaches that - and heating effect when it's higher.KungFooBob wrote: Thu Jul 09, 2026 10:31 am So around 30c you stop feeling the benefit from the wind chill, I suppose it's still cooler and more comfortable than a traditional jacket.
Then you need to be using evaporation: soaking clothing (and neck tube / neckerchief), with ice in pockets if it's really hot.
Even bland can be a type of character
