Then my question stands, why more travel

I do like how longer travel bike seem smoother (to me at least). My old g170 was a lovely thing to ride (not that the Aether isn’t). The Aether is a fast bike, but when it’s pointing down hill it doesn’t have that same rush the 170 (or the e180) had. It’s difficult to explain.

The Aether would have to go to make room for this one and I I’ve got a feeling I’ll end up regretting it.

The Aether 9 is staying for now, and has just been treated to a new set of tyres - some Tacky Chans, which should be fun.

I was tempted by both an Aeris 9 or Saracen Ariel 60, but I think for now at least the Aether will do nicely.

Well the new shock is fitted and there's no knocking which is good.

I'm only getting 7 clicks of rebound when there's meant to be 10, so I might just send it back which is disappointing! Apparently it's quite common...

Is making a shock correctly that difficult?

Who knows. I've emailed the shop I bought it from so we'll see what they say. The Rockshox group on facebook suggest removing the adjuster and greasing it a bit, but not sure I fancy that on something new. Apparently it can be easier to adjust the rebound with the shock off the bike, so maybe I'll try that later.

The new shock is fitted and feels good. I got some advice from TFTuned and I didn't send the shock back in the end

Managed to find a nice setting and spent Sunday morning flying all over the place. There's some new drop lines that have opened since last time I went, the biggest of them must be about 5ft or so and the shock felt good landing from that so that'll do nicely.

This is all stripped down having donated parts to the new bike, I’ll be selling the frame, forks, shock, brakes and dropper i think.

Had an awesome time at twisted last Sunday and finally got the guts to do the pro line drop so that was a fitting last ride for this bike which has been just awesome.
