Re: Formula 1.
Oh, I totally get that.
I wasn't paying enough attention generally (I used to half watch back in the day and look up when Murray Walker got all excited, watch the exciting bit and go back to doing stuff and listening - kinda did that today, but it wasn't the same!!), just suddenly the french commentators were hollering like mad men - they'd not been that excited over any of the overtakes or incidents, it was just weird. Had they been effusive generally, I'd have got it. But to be so laid back and then get that excited/upset in the last lap (even though it was a safety car), I was just surprised.
Should know better, haven't met many French men that are particularly effusive, so I suppose that's my error thinking they should have been like that for the incidents/overtakes!!

I didn't "get" all the words in the shouting - why didn't the safety car pull in? Was the crashed car still on the gravel on the corner?

Re: Formula 1.
Apparently the notification that the safety car was going to pull in was a software error.
Theres a rule that the safety car has to do one extra lap after the backmarkers have been cleared, which is why it stayed out for the last lap.
Not the best way to end it, but the safety rules are there for (mostly) pretty good reasons.

Re: Formula 1.
@Noggin I imagine the French commentary got excited because Leclerc won?

Re: Formula 1.
He was jolly cross about his rear wing failing to close (again). The disgusted toss of the steering "wheel" out of the car and the stomp across the gravel was top temper tantrum.

"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"

Re: Formula 1.
You'd a thought, but they were shouty angry, less that the Fronch on!! Hence my comments. I probably need to go back and relisten, but it definitely confused me because what I heard (through the warp speed shouty) wasn't particularly happy!!Rockburner wrote: Sun Jul 05, 2026 5:37 pm @Noggin I imagine the French commentary got excited because Leclerc won?
I totally get why everyone else would be miffed that the last lap was under safety car, tis why I was surprised they seemed angry, cos a fronch won!! LOL

This specimen, although it appears the Italians may have managed to instill some fashion sense.
Re: Formula 1.
I thought that's who you meant. Did you not watch the race? Hamilton was third (could have been second) and Stroll was dead last of the runners.
He does dress like a clown though, I'll give you that.

The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

Re: Formula 1.
Over here it's only available on Apple TV, so I signed up at the beginning of the season.. then cancelled the subscription after the first month. No interest in watching while AM is such a shitshow & the battery clusterfuckery.McNab wrote: Mon Jul 06, 2026 4:31 pm I thought that's who you meant. Did you not watch the race? Same thing happened with MotoGP, it went to a channel here that required a special subscription several years ago. Didn't bother to sign up. It's now available again with my regular Direct TV & have watched a couple of races, but couldn't name more than three riders from memory* or identify the bikes.
I have a feeling I'll be totally over F1 by the end of the year. Now I just look on the BBC website to see who qualified where, the final results & read a few reports.
* and two of them are the Marquez brothers.
