Donned the 'first aider hat' on the way to work this morning.
At least this one didn't croak in front of me.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Turns out I walked 2.5kms yesterday (100% weight on left leg, did carry the crutch just incase it was needed, it wasn't!!)
Today I've done 1.7kms, but forgot to take any meds this morning - turns out the paracetamol/ketaprofene mix has been helping
Now sat with leg up and wrapped in an ice pack
Spoke with my GP and he helped me understand the processes here and am slightly less worried about the knee (not a lot, but he's helped understand a bit more!)
Not gonna do a lot more today, so crochet on the go soon to make more booties for my friends' baby

Re: What have you done today thread?
Had my pre-course courtesy call and briefing today. I’m the only person attending a course next week which means I get 121 support from the trainer, who says he’ll muck in and help me make as much progress as possible whilst still learning from the course and doing the key steps in terms of building the kayak. To quote him, ‘I’ll do the mundane tasks like sanding while you do the actual building’. Hopefully I’ll be driving away with a complete boat ready to varnish or paint* when I get it home.Silly Car wrote: Sun Apr 19, 2026 11:50 amI’m heading to the Lake District to spend a week building one of these:

At Fyne Boats near Kendal.
I decided I’d rather ‘do a thing’ than sit by a pool, wander around a city, etc.
In preparation, I’ve ordered some 3D printed deck line inserts to incorporate as part of the build rather than having to drill and screw mount the lines once the build is complete. Just need them to turn up in the post before I set off on Sunday…
*the final coating is to protect the epoxy resin construction and will be dependent on how good it looks, if it is shite, it’ll be getting painted!
I’m toying with chucking the push iron in the boot to get some miles in while I’m away as my knees aren’t up to any running at the moment.

Re: What have you done today thread?
People here are shocked/scared/amazed when I go hauling off along some goat trail on a California cliff like I'm walking on a 20ft wide sidewalk. I guess I take it for granted after Cornish cliffs... I climbed many cliffs between Tregantle & Downderry a few times in my teen years & didn't think anything of it.MrLongbeard wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2026 4:50 pm Walked 3 million thousand miles, bugge4 me I don't remember Cornwall being this hilly.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Got myself a lovely puncture.
Got home then pulled out nail and screwed in special screw for punctures, those with a rubbery bit in the thread.
Absolute piece of piss to do, but the screwdriver that come with the kit is shite, so you need a better one with you. I'll check pressure in the morning, but 1 hr in and all good.

Also this little lift stand is very useful on the monkey, just for lifting back wheel.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Spent money
Got the bike serviced, J&S’ s for knee armour and a cheapish set of boots for the wife.
Visit to Costco, petrol for the car and bike.
700 quid just gone like that.
Just an average Friday (fortunately not)

Re: What have you done today thread?
I went out early to buy a fan (well, wanted a cheap cooling thingy but they were sold out
) and some bread.
Then home to cook an English Breakfast for brunch with some French friends
I can't say "full English breakfast because I didn't have baked beans and didn't do fried bread
But we had english sausages, actual bacon (
), proper black puddin (I thought Boudin Noir is similar, but my friends disagree
), mushrooms, toms and a fried egg

They seemed really happy
Set Hippolyte up for starting work at 13h10
I plan to do another brunch sometime with a bit more notice so some other friends can join us
(only decided/invited yesterday midday when I saw Hippolyte at the depot and in chatting I mentioned I was on the way to pick up an order that included black pud and bacon
So a bit last minute
)

Wierdly, they both drink tea henever they come over!!! The thermos in the middle of the table is my coffee
