On the tv this morning, there are still frontline hospital staff who haven't had the vaccine, but all the ancient old folk are getting in first, don't seem right to me.

Also, what happened to all the Nightingales.???

From seeing some of the front line staff posting on forums it's logistics that's the issue rather than simply not wanting to treat them. The vaccine has to be specific temps so timescales and location are important. They're given 48 hours notice to get to the location which may be 100 miles away and has to be done outside of their working hours, which can often make it impossible. If they can't get it done, it goes to someone else. So they're missing out and instead it's going to the next non-worker in the chain.

Your post is a bit harsh though as well, although i'm sure it's not deliberate. Just because they're old folk, doesn't mean they deserve to die. But i don't think for a second that's what you mean... i get your point though.

But with the new vaccine being easier to transport and store, this should change that figure dramatically in the (hopefully) not too distant future.

Dunno if it's the same in all areas, but in the Hosptial my 'rents both volunteer at they have a set number of priority doses and then its "use em up".

They make appointments for X number of vulnerable people as far as they can, but if they don't fill the slots to use their whole batch of vaccine up they start working down the list. That's why you see secretaries and what not getting jabbed on the news.

That's also why my parents have both been jabbed, despite being only just over 60 and not front like medical staff.

So, a question.
Due to various countries closing their borders to people leaving the UK, we ended up putting Brock (stack) in place and opened Manston that I helped set up a few years ago. We then tested 15000 truck drivers leaving the country. Who paid??
If we can test that many people leaving, how many are we testing who are entering the UK??
Serious questions by the way.

Well, the simple answer is "we'll all pay" for the next 20 years in different ways, for the testing, for the vaccine, for the PPE, the hospitals.... we all will.

But who cares... i'd rather be slightly poorer than slightly deader.

Brace yourself for the surge in the next couple of weeks for the surge in infection from the Christmas and New Year get tobethers that people insisted on having.

The time for relying on the Great Unwashed to use 'common sense' and follow the rules as passed. It's time to bring out the big stick.
the great unwashed were impressed by the tousled clown asking hands with hospital staff early on, and the shaven ape going off for an eye test to Barnard Castle. That was the time when the big stick would have been influential.

This was actually turning into a sensible and useful discussion, don't fuck it up being being an arsehole.

You don't think leadership has anything to do with behaviour? People will do things for the common good if they feel they are all in it together. Once they see that those telling them what to do are doing something else, why would they not do what they want?

Dude, by all means have an opinion on who/what and why, but using terms like the shaven ape isn't bringing anything to the discussion apart from taking it down a road of insult and derision. All you needed to due was use a persons name and you've kept the topic completely on subject and kept it sensible.

You start off with shaven ape then we're onto "that wanker, that fucking idiot" and all the other terms that just drag it into a pointless insult topic. It's actually been a sensible disucssion, seen from both/all sides and has decent information, i want to see things discussed here.. but if we want to discuss things we can't just drag them into the gutter because of stupid terms. You'll use one, then someone on the other side will use the reverse, then it will be name-calling other members/posts and it gets locked and turns to shit.

I'm not arguing with what you said... it's how you say it.

At least one is being used (has been for some time), but others are apparently having equipment such as ventlators removed. Having a building and kit is one thing, staffing is something else.

FWIW, St John Ambulance are providing support to the London Ambulance Service.

I like the 'We' then tested 15000 truck drivers.

I think you'll find that a lot of that testing was done by forces personnel. Bet they won't get a clap on a Thursday night despite giving up their Christmas at the drop of a hat. They'll probably get banned from local pubs later in the year though.

And 10,000 of the kits were brought over from France by their pompiers.

My 78 year old Father-in-Law took my 90 year old M-i-L for her jab yesterday. The jabbing bloke said your turn. F-i-L said he hadn't had the call up yet as he was under 80. Jabber said do you want it whilst you're here? So F-i-L got his done! One less for some one more vulnerable who was in line I suppose? :wtf:

Sure I heard on the news that they couldn't recruit enough staff for the nightingales? Very sad that people aren't receiving needed treatments because covid has pretty much shut down hospitals? But then my Step-Mother had a CT scan a few days ago and she is covid positive? Wheeling c19 patients around the hospital and using scanners and other equipment must contaminate everything they come into contact with, so I guess that takes it out of service for everyone else?

Brock was built and put in place by road works teams. They won't have got applause either.

And members from the Maidenhead and Coventry Sikh charities KhalsaAid and LangarAid took food to drivers

Its become the CHS - COVID health service. They are now shipping patients into Norfolk from Essex.... great idea that, let’s ship patients from the high infection areas into the low infection areas

I live in the sticks in Cornwall, recently Tier 1 but 'promoted' to Tier 2.

Lots of local pubs are reporting issues with people from Tier 3 and Tier 4 areas who have come down to escape the restrictions, and get stroppy when reminded they are supposed to be staying home. 3 gastro pubs have closed in the last few days, citing staff getting abused for trying to enforce the legal rules. At least the IoS, still in Tier 1, managed to send a group from Tier 4 home on the next flight Then there are the gay* activists who objected to being asked to show some ID to prove they lived together, rather than being 2 blokes out on the piss. .

* I don't care if people are gay, I do care if gay people think the rules don't apply to them

I suppose the other option is to stack them up in an Essex car park?

Plus it’s not like they’ll be in the local McDonald’s - they’ll be in a hospital ward.

No it would make more sense to use the knightingales - and before you say there are no staff, how about use the staff that are in all the covid wards... keep hospitals fixing normal illness and keep covid patients all in one place...

It’s not really a case of not being able to recruit them* - it’s more a case of there not being enough ICU trained nurses. Unfortunately you can’t just pull a nurse off the ward and point her towards a ventilated patient.

* although there still are 10s of thousands nursing vacancies at the moment.

See point above - trained ICU staff are the thing that’s lacking at the moment - also the nightingales, while they look good on tv are not equipped as they need to be.
