Return to bikes.. how it's going

Post by The Martian »

So I've had the old Duke back on the road a couple of weeks after winter storage (and it then needing a carb rebuild) and I'm starting to enjoy riding again.

The trip to the MOT station was interesting, hadn't touched the bike since last year but still thought I should be better at steering.. a quick stop at the garage to increase the rear tyre pressure from 5psi made quite a difference
Sailed through the MOT, but still felt heavy on the way home so checked the front tyre.. 12 psi in that :wtf:

So anyway, carbs rebuilt by MadAx (done a great job) new battery, air in the tyres and it's becoming a pleasure to ride. I'm starting to like riding again, albeit at a considerably more easy going pace than in a previous life 8-)

No, but it might come out later if the weather improves so I'll take a couple then.

Excellent, another 900 Duke on the road

Got my monster on the road a week or so back, the first ride was awkward at first, got more instinctive gradually. Needs a good long ride to get back into the groove properly I think.

Good luck with your re-intro. Any plans for trips out?

No trips planned, except maybe to a local bike meet tbc.
I can only manage about an hour of riding before various previously broken parts hurt too much. I don't know if this will improve or get worse with more riding so I'm not getting carried away yet and likewise trying to find a groove again.

I've decided not to look at bikes again this year, but next year I plan to drop down to 4 days a week. To coincide with this, I summoned Mrs. G to the parlour, whereupon I sat her down and explained, whilst stood elbow on the mantle, striking a masterful tone in my smoking jacket, that the bank account at Chez Gremlin will be raided next year and a proper fucking bike purchased next spring.
I further informed her that she shall be joining me upon several trips in order to enjoy this new-found, additional free time as pillion on said bike.

A swift application of smelling salts brought her round from her distressed state, where she promptly agreed to my plan whilst gazing at me adoringly.

Can I borrow your smoking jacket? My conversations with Mrs CJ have been unsatisfactory of late.

There may a touch of artistic licence in my telling of those events...
