Friday Fred Hot June

Post by Yorick »

We've got my best pal's daughter and hubby with us

Always been close to her and at her wedding a few years ago, we offered our guest apartment as a wedding prezzy.

So they planned it this year to coincide with her 40th.

Got a few nice surprises for them

Footy will be watched with them Saturday

It's been over/around 40c where they all live in France, so they're enjoying the high 20s here 😀

Motogp for me Sunday

Watcha got?

Nothing tonight.

Up for the gym on Saturday than a day of stripping the summerhouse roof of shingles then start laying a new roof. Will be a couple of weekends' work, I reckon, then we'll give it a lick of paint and clear some of the crap out of it. All part of prepping the gaff to sell it at some point.

Sunday we're out to celebrate my sisters 58th birthday down in Maidstone somewhere.

That's all I got.

Chillin'

Well, doing v little that involves exertion until the temperature drops. However, I read someone's cunning tactic which involves shading the windows on the outside (which is what they do with commercial greenhouses - roller blinds on the outside). The cunning bit is they used 'space blankets' - the emergency silvery plastic foil things used in emergency out on the moors/mountains etc- so I bought 2 packs of 6.

Going to shade the windows on the SE side - inc the main bedroom to see if it helps stop the place warming through the first half of the day. It'll look a bit weird but we're the only ones that'll see 'em.

If it does work I'll consider getting some shutters made - works in France so worth a shot.

Today, put up with my boss being a dickhead*, lunch with a solicitor, admin

Tomorrow, off to Newcastle races with daughter & her boyfriend, many drinks to be had

Sunday, recover

* he double booked guest speakers on the fortnightly planner Teams call this morning, my solicitor mate was supposed to be delivering some training but needed to be cancelled on short notice which I had to deal with. His speaker didn’t deliver the agreed content and got asked to stop having exceeded his allocated time by 10 mins. Later call from him moaning that I’m behind in my admin, which is due to his insistence that I pulled forward a load of meetings to before my holiday, many of which were 2 hours away from home and that I needed to spread out appointments in the future to ensure admin is done in a timely fashion WTAF!

Ordinarily, I would outline why I think he’s being a dickhead, but I have neither the patience or sufficient crayons to explain it to him…

Worked 12hr day today but no useless trainee so that’s as good as a holiday.

Sat and Sun are the first weekend off for a while so spend time with Mrs M and the hounds.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

Off home tomorrow. Enjoy yourselves though, we’ve had a lovely time in a few different places! 👍

100% works - well shutters do!! TBF, my apartment seems to be cooler inside than the one next door (although when we looked at that one a few weeks ago it wasn't lived in, so maybe there's a difference). BUT, it's noticably cooler if I close the shutters early morning (or even at 9:15 like today) than if I don't.

My sitting room faces SE so it gets all the warm of the morning to midday sun. I do shutter the bedroom window too but I also leave it part open as I like some air through the bedroom at a minimum. I don't shutter the side windows or NW facing ones because there are high hedges so limited sun actually comes inside.

The downside of shutters/foil blankets is that you end up in a dark room :( :( And I miss the view of the mountains :( :( But with these temps it's worth it for a few weeks I guess. Having been outside for about an hour and almost melting, it's very freshing to come inside and close the door and have somme cool - just need to get rid of the bastard flies now :angry-cussingblack:

My weekend is quiet, as per!! Not even a band to go watch later

Yesterday I went to see work, dropped off some cake; went to physio, left him some cake too; popped into the cafe I always used to go to, took cafe for the lovely lady that owns it, caught up with someone I'd rather not have done (but he seems to have brushed his messaged under a rock, so I guess I have to suck that up and go back to normal without addressing it - it was over six months ago now due to winter and injury we've not crossed paths!!); then home to crochet stuff for a new baby that arrived to some friends on Thursday and for one of my mate's kid that is coming out in August so we'll finally get to meet the "new" one year old baby!!

Today - lie in (not sleeping well - knee making funnypains and toothache still) then went to get some sun but too hot!! So now - more crochet; sort some paperwork for the visit to the surgeon on Monday, and persuade myself to cut stuff up to make a big salad!!

Tomorrow - probably similar to today except I plan to head outside way earlier. BUT, I have a sneaky feeling that my new neighbour is planning a doo this afternoon/evening and since he seems to have built seating right next to our fence, and so right next to my bedroom window, I'm not sure I'll get much of an early night to get up early :( :(
Then more crochet and probably still trying to persuade myself to make the salad
