Re: In todays light hearted look at the (non-political) news
I've not been on a plane for 10+ years and i'm in no rush to do it again.
I've done countless miles driving, including 10+ hours without anything more than a quick pee stop. But that's at my own speed, with my boy and with music we choose and stopping when we feel like etc.

Re: In todays light hearted look at the (non-political) news
If they offered a service where they put you in suspended animation at home and wake you up at the other end I'd reconsider my 'no fly' status.
No airports, no emigration/immigration, no baggage carousels, no flying bus.
To be fair, the likes of Virgin Upper Class take a lot of that misery away - at a price - but I'd sell the first-born if necessary to raise the £ if I had to go long-haul again.

The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

Having done 13 or 14 hour long-haul 4 times this year (Been to Chile twice*), I'm meh about that. It is what it is and you just deal with it.Taipan wrote: Thu Jun 18, 2026 7:58 am Flying to New York nearly killed me! Greece was a pisser too. Spain and Portugal are enough for me. So I'll not be taking this new offer up, even if it was free, but apparently it's demand-driven as no one wants to go via the Middle East anymore?
Qantas Will Conquer the ‘Final Frontier of Long-Haul Travel’ With 22 Hour Non-Stop Flights Between London and Sydney! London has just been named as the first-ever ultra-long-haul destination to connect to Sydney, Australia, with 22-hour non-stop flights. If all now goes to plan, Australian flag carrier, Qantas plans to launch the bum-numbing service in October 2027, using specially adapted Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.
* In Feb it was with Air-France: 45 minute flight Heathrow to Paris (not even long enough to eat the meal!), then 13.5 hour flight Paris to Santiago, reversed on the return. We bought Business class and it was pretty good to be honest.
Last week was BA, well, booked through BA: outbound was Cattle-Class with Iberia to Madrid (2 hours?), then 13 hours Madrid to Santiago. Return was Premium Cattle with BA direct (14.5 hrs iirc). BA Premium was better than Iberia cattle, but nowhere near as good as AF Business (naturally).
non quod, sed quomodo

For those that are not vertically challenged, a little bit extra is a blessing.
On an Air Malaysia flight several years ago I thought that I had more legroom, and checked on internet, yep, at that time they gave a whole half an inch more than other carriers.
Every little helps.

As has been noticed before, my geography is a bit shit, but pretty sure we're in an orange zone (73 - Savoie) - didn't look at the car temps today but last time I went out it said 25, which wasn't as hot as I expected!!
But it is too hot to sit outside past about 10:30
Luckily my place is pretty cool (relatively) inside, so not too bad

I always move outside this time of year. A mate has got a load of kit piled up on my usual camping platform so I've got the tent screwed to the deck outside the house. I also bought a hammock on Amazon for €30, I'm going to give it a try tonight.

I love the idea of this - I'm just not keen on the rush back inside in the middle of the night and so the "being a buffet" for that trip!!! Re: In todays light hearted look at the (non-political) news
I'm in the interior of Alicante (it's a province as well as a city), today's max is forecast as 36 which seems about right. It's getting cooler for the rest of the week, 30 ish, which is about normal for this time of year.Horse wrote: Mon Jun 22, 2026 2:16 pmWe're in S France, in the 'amber' warning area, forecast 41C in the shade.
