Petition about stolen bikes

Post by crust »

The police reaction to my bikes being nicked was:

Here's a crime number, than you and no we won't be turning up. What about taking finger prints of stuff they touched, nope. Clear CCTV of the perps, upload it and then we can close the case.
There's CCTV of it showing which way it went, not interested. I had a tip off of where it was and who had it, sorry case closed.

Bike theft just doesn't seek to register, so we can do nothing or try something. Someone's done a change.org petition, if there's enough signatures etc etc.

I think it depends a lot on the area and local force's priorities and targets (ie, set by our "betters").

When the Puch was nicked, because they left behind a tool/implement/weapon (a large screwdriver/pry-bar) the cops were interested and came out to look (the next day, iirc, fair enough - no imminent loss of life, scene relatively preserved), and pick up said implement. DNA was pulled, scrote was tugged, said nothing but "no comment", (ie, knows the rules well). Unfortunately that was pretty much all they had in the way of "stands up in court" evidence. The bike was never recovered (presumably already passed on to some other scrote), so that's pretty much all the police had. :(

I might get roasted here, but my bikes are only as important as my fridge.

Actually less so.

The bikes are insured.

The fridge will be €1000 to replace.
