That's why i don't envy you :) Even though you have things i'd like.
I've always been the same, work hard in the morning and hopefully have an easy afternoon.
This is more like work hard now (well, not work hard, just have more responsibility and stress) and retire in my early 50's with enough to enjoy life.

We're all different I suppose, many wouldn't want the hassle, but I don't have a gun to my head, I could step away from it any time I feel like and stack shelves at Asda.

I've been working all through the Christmas holidays, but only cause I'm a nerd and I like doing it :D

I've been using MATLAB software for the first time in about ten years. I used it loads at Uni and in my first few jobs, but my more recent roles haven't needed it/the company hasn't had access to it.

Using this software is making me nostalgic :D

There are, but unless it's a genuine passion and choice then if I have work to do my work ethic is to go hard and fast and for the least amount of time I have to - then I can get on and do things I enjoy more.
I like my job, its the best one I've ever had, but I'm not sure it's what I'd be doing if I didn't need the income.

If you have to mow your lawn there is nothing that says you can't enjoy mowing it, but you don't want to drag it out all day when you can do it in an hour and then go off for the rest of the day doing other stuff.

If you genuinely love your job and would do it even if you won £50m on the lottery then fair play, but otherwise why drag it out, get it done and retire asap so you can go off and be completely free.

I can also clean and check it all prior to thinning it out.

I had to get something from a friends' place. They are on holiday but I collected the keys from a mutual friend. Walked down to find that there is a key code lock on the door as well as the key lock

So I text the girl whose apartment it is - cos FB messenger said she was 'active' (it was about 7.30am in the UK so didn't want to wake her or her hubby up!)

She didn't reply, so I text another friend up here - she said the key code bit was never locked so she didn't know it :o Tried again, definitely can't open door :(

Waited a bit longer. Then text the guy half of the apartment. He was awake (should have text him first really!) and gave me the code - woohoo. Luckily no one had gone past their apartment in the 30 mins I was waiting outside!! LOL

In I go - straight to key rack to pick up key.

Nope, no key there. Text Al and check if I have the right place (don't want to rummage through their apartment to try and find a key!!). He says it should be where I'm looking. Look again and on the shoe rack below it. Nope

Then he said, oh, maybe it's on the dining table!! Woohoooo - key and other bits for the bastard minibus on the table! Finally I can leave! LOL

Lock up and leave, Al texting as I go down the stairs about the snowfall and touring (which I can't do till they've done some pisting  ) then off I go to walk home (20/30 mins, I walk slow in the snow as have been warned strongly about falling on either shoulder!!!). As I'm leaving their car park the phone beeps but I figure he can wait for an answer till I'm back.

Drop off keys with mutual friend, buy nice bread and an eclair (she works in the boulangerie!!) then go get a hot choc from my favourite place. He didn't charge me :) Think it was reciprocal as I'd made him some mince pies for Christmas that he loved :D :D

Sat on a bench in the snow drinking the chocolate and contemplating life in a ski resort with no lifts!! Bloody love living here but the lack of seasonaire friends and lifts for skiing is making things a bit tough!

Got home to find that the last message was from the girl of the apartment asking me to check the post! And telling me I don't need a code, just turn the key a bit further and it releases the code lock  LOL LOL Oh well

So I'm back home and have had some peanut butter on nice bread for breakfast and watching the madness from my window that is cars with inappropriate tyres trying to drive up the slope outside my apartment

The electric heating under the pathway really isn't working!! LOL

I still find it amazing that it's like that there, whilst I'm sat in 25c at the side of my pool, it's like different planets.
All because of a big fiery ball about 90 million miles away.

I'd love to swap you for a day.

I still don't quite believe that Christmas is in the middle of summer in Aus.

BTW....Noggins post are making me pine for the snow. I haven't been snowboarding for years now, baby D kinda put the brakes on skiing holidays for a few years! She's 3 now though, which means she's officially old enough to start lessons at SnoZone, conveniently located 5 mins drive from my house :D

I'd only cope with a day or two swap!! Although at the snowy time of year I might cope better where you are. I visited in June the only time I went there and damn I struggled!! I like sun and heat to a point but not really a lying by the pool/on the beach kinda person!

You probably wouldn't want to swap for my apartment tho - your garage would be about 4 times the size or more!! LOL But I can find you somewhere to stay that would fit you both more comfortable!! LOL

But yes, it is weird that we really aren't 'that' far apart and yet so totally different!

I'm pining for skiing!! And I'm here!! LOL

ESF do 'lessons' from 3 years old, but very French (lack of patience in general!!). Depending on where you go next I can recommend good schools for youngsters (well, in the Tarentaise area I can find out, up here I have more knowledge :) )

And I always think it's weird having Christmas in summer! And struggle now at the thought of Christmas in the rain in the UK !!

She can do a 10 week "snow academy" here now, but once that's finished she isn't allowed on the general slopes (I wouldn't let her either, far too many 'big people' not looking). So it seems kinda pointless forking over the cash.

Her school has a Ski club and does an annual trip. They also book private slope sessions here in MK. Currently she's in pre-prep, when she starts prep school aged 5 she can do it with that lot, at which point it will be worth paying for lessons.

Bought a load of bubble bath. Some people buy Christmas cards now because they're cheap, I stock up on bubble bath.

It's why I don't ski in the Feb holidays. Far too many people, many not looking and even more who have more enthusiasm than skill!! Tis why I started touring - can go out before the lifts open and get at least one good ski in before the rest come out!! LOL

If it's possible whilst she's little, look at trying to go skiing when the main bulk of schools aren't on holiday, if it's possible. Gives her a chance to learn before having to deal with the madness!!! :D

Yorick wrote: Sun Dec 27, 2020 7:02 pm Today, just 2 of us for an enduro ride, but straight away I saw a dude on a big Yam trailie thing, looking a bit lost, so I invited him along. When I met Mark at the petrol station, it turned out this dude was Czech and had ridden the bike over. So we took it easy for a bit and he handled it OK. He didn't have any armour, so we didn't want to be responsible for any damage.
At the first drink stop, it turns out that he's a freelance bike journalist, specialising in long term bike reviews. Also a pro cameraman and film maker.

So we upped it a little, but still steady (ish)

When we got into the big sand dunes, he was trying the big hills that we were doing. Failed of course coz of the weight and the road based tyres, but he kept plugging away

He took some pics of us, and said he'd send them later.
Here's the pro pics :)

More front rebound so the front doesn't tuck and more throttle, at the exact point you fell off you should have been WOT.
I've got the suspension set up for the rough terrain and climbing rocks and tough stuff. It's the first time I've done that track on the Husky and only did 4 laps anyway after a hard day. One day we'll head straight there and have a proper play. It's a bloody long circuit and hard to learn.
It feels a lot longer than the photo shows as it's very deep sand and hard work

24c here today and like you, I'd fancy it, just for 1 day. We had some mega snow in Bradford, but was only nice for a couple of days then a week of slush and damp weather.

That's the bonus here. It doesn't got to slush n damp n grey until towards the end of the season. We usually get 3-4 months of snow with some decent sunny days along the way. :D :D :D
