Found most of the parts* for the weird kickstand. Ignition system gubbins will be on it's way here tomorrow.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Spent 90 minutes at the DMV losing the will to live & ultimately getting the GPz750 titled, most of that waiting for my # to get called. Took a while as I had a bill of sale from the guy I bought it from, a bill of sale from the guy he bought it from & a bill of sale from the registered owner selling it to that guy.
I left it non-opped as the tag date is July 14th & it won't be on the road before then, so it just cost me $66. No idea what the tags will be, I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

This just showed up, which will be a major contribution to getting it to run... or at least spark... hopefully

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
oh, & I installed the new ignition gubbins & got the fucker to fire up!! albeit with a squirt of ether down the carbs... which I then removed & bought home for o/h. Two slides are stuck open & two are stuck closed.. but at least now the butterflies move, everything was locked up this morning before it all got a spray with Tiger Piss.
Also gave the clutch cover some attention to see how well it cleaned up.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Delved into the carbs... dear god what a mess.
This morning NOTHING moved. Gave it all a spray with Free All which is a lube/penetrant/rust buggerer.
Managed to get the butterflies moving first & then worked them a bit so they're moving freely now.
Removed float bowls, cleaned them of the varnish.
Removed 3 of the 4 floats, can't get the pin out of the #2 carb. It got sprayed with lacquer thinner, brake cleaner & then Free All, will try again tomorrow.
Removed three float valves.
Removed the main jets & poked them to remove the solid varnish that was completely blocking them. #1 main is probably buggered, will assess when they're clean.
Flipped carbs over & started on that side of the clusterfuckery.
Diaphragms are all OK, Needles were all munged up, but they cleaned up just fine with lacquer thinner & a paper towel
Reassembled top side of carbs for now.
Got the choke shaft freed up & now all that gubbins is moving easily.
Need to get some carb cleaner to spray through various orfices (orifii?) etc.
Given how bad the carbs were with regards to butterflies & slides not moving I'm surprised it fired at all
Pretty sure I would be 100% justified in getting a bigger ultrasonic cleaner that could take the entire carb rack... Will be home alone & unsupervised for 11 days starting Monday
Edit: 30L ultrasonic will be here next Wednesday. Would have been almost $250, but I applied for an Amazon Visa & immediately got $150 credit, so $94.64 WIN!!

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Current plan of attack*
Once the carbs are all spiffed up (need to pick up some carb dip) & it's running like it should I'll throw oil & a new filter at it. It also needs a battery as it doesn't have one right now, was using a jump box today.
Gonna pull the Yosh exhaust & give that some fresh paint, ordered new gaskets for that project. Will clean & paint the engine while the pipe is off it, & also give the frame tubes a polish.
Still couldn't get the gas cap open today.
I'll be taking the seat & the spare GPz11 seat over to my mate who did the ZRX11 & ZX11 seats for me.
Paint job will be the last thing, it will be getting tires before that, wheels also need to be powdercoated, brake rotors are shot & the calipers/pads need sorting.
*subject to change.

A good project thread.
Needs more

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
It's living at a mates shop so I only work on what parts I bring home. I won't be back over there before May 29th at the earliest. I guess I should have taken more pics of the carb work yesterday, will take some today.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Buffed the other side cover & the tail, gave them a good scrub.
All three piece need plastic welding. Need to bring home more parts...
eh? home alone & unsupervised? I have no idea what you're talking about...

Float bowls went into my old (small) ultrasonic cleaner that came from Horrible Fright today. Looking a bit better.
New stuff on it's way from Z1 Enterprises in Florida. (carb gubbins, ignition cover gasket & tank bungs)
Fuel cross feed tubes & O-rings on the way from Montana.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Rear master cylinder is mullared, found one on Ebay for $30 as it was listed for a KZ750, same as the GPz version... which was listed for $100.
Got the rear brake lever off the spline thingie easily enough, but that spline part is damn near welded into footpeg bracket wotsit.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Found a NOS generator cover on Ebay & it's right here in town. Years ago the local Kaw/Yam dealer retired & another local bike shop took over one of his locations. Looks like he bought up all the Kaw/Yam parts & is now selling all the stuff on EBay.
In related news, when these guys moved into the old Kaw/Yam shop they dumped a load of crap, which is how that '87 GPZ1000RX ended up in Methlandia on the East side of town. (which I may still pick up)

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Fuel T moves easily, as do the other two T's for the float bowl vents, so I'm feeling pretty confident I can separate the carbs without buggering the T's, just need to find some more O rings.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Ordered & canceled:
Kickstand & spring etc. Bought on Ebay two weeks ago, still hasn't been shipped, cancelled this morning. Fuck em.
Update:
Put in a request to cancel the order yesterday, Ebay disallowed as apparently the seller shipped it today... although the tracking # only shows a label was created... two fucking weeks after I ordered it.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
New toy, er, tool showed up. Carbs easily fit, guess I know what I'll be doing tomorrow... It's a tad bigger than I expected (that's what she said....)
Cage for small doodads is REALLY tiny. Usual method is to use those metal mesh pen holder/desk organizer thinigies though.
