Drain cover ideas

The drain cover for this broke and then went missing. I've measured it before but can't remember the dimensions but fairly certain it's non standard sized and all a bit misshapen so when I looked a couple of months back nothing in the shops would fit



The drain further along (access road for garages) has an ill fitting cover with still a fair bit of a trip hazard involved. But I guess worse case I can see if that fits and then buy one that size. This is the other cover.



Any other ideas for a man who is as DIY handy as a man with no hands?

One idea I had was small plastic drain cover for the actual tube part of the drain (which needs digging out) and then filling the hole with fair sized stones to get it level with the concrete so no trip hazard but still drain water...or is that stupid.

Mill one (or two) from billet unobtanium?

Second one looks as if the surround is about to allow the grating to collapse in. Is it yours, a shared responsibility access area?

Oh - if you fill with stones, use round 'pebbles', to allow plenty of drainage space.

Even then, they will gradually fill with dirt, leaves, etc. Before long, weeds and grass. So have some way to lift and clean.

If you put a plastic support under the pebbles, what happens if someone drives over the drain. Could you end up fishing the pebbles out if the drain if the plastic gives way?

As Hoss said, you may end up needing to fish them out and remove debris anyway.

I'd chop the ground out and fit a metal one...or, get someone to do it - and do it properly if it'll get driven over.

Check your Land Registry and deeds to confirm. Start mucking about with someone else's property and they might get upset.

Doesn't look fit for purpose, I'd plant a nice shrub in it or maybe a Budleigh tree.
