How old are your everyday clothes?

Most of my clothes are less than twelve months, with many less than six months old with the exception of some items I have shrunk back into

I’ve got a number of shirts I’m yet to decide whether to sell via Vinted or get tailored to fit, they’re the type of shirt I’ll never button the collar up or wear a tie but is obviously a limit to how much alteration can be carried out before it just doesn’t look right…

There are a few old tee shirts and hoodies I use for DIY which are a touch baggy but I haven’t had enough use out of the better fitting items for them to be relegated as yet.

There is a large pile of jeans, trousers, jumpers and tee shirts in the spare bedroom ready to go to charity when the local shop is actually open.

Typically, every day wear, I.e. WFH / evening / weekend wear is previously going out / going away clothing which gets worn to the point I use it for DIY stuff before it ending up as rags or binned.

Wife has a brown, distressed-leather jacket from 'Leather Rat' of similar vintage but, older than that, she still has a (fittingly named!) 'bomber' jacket with an embroidered back relating to Tactical Air Command, Udorn, Thailand so, at a guess it's late 50s, early 60s. It's a lightweight cotton one rather than the sort of thing they'd wear for flight duties.

(It came from a huge s/h emporium called 'Flip' in Covent Garden. A lot of the stuff was ex US military I think. I had some clothes from a near legendary surplus place up the road from Warren St tube called Laurence Corner. Not just army and navy - I had an Italian police m/cycle jacket from there. After 54 years it closed down in 2007. Lots of bike couriers used it I think as there was a courier office in the building opposite).

That reminds me, I still have a 36yo flight suit... that fits, unlike the Kaw jacket..

I have t-shirts I wear to work that are older than some of the apprentices
Converse shoes last me 6 months max, but just keep buying them

Prop strike, Was standing in front of the left B25 engine & some fucker moved the prop (by hand)... Alconbury '90, Friday afternoon the weekend of the airshow. We'd taken a few of the TFC aircraft from Duxford (B25, P63, P47, P51, Spit etc)

Then it got pretty funny. I'm bleeding like a stuck pig, I grabbed a rag from my pocket to stem the flow which introduced avgas, Aeroshell 60W oil & coolant into the wound.
There's a large First Aid tent maybe 50ft away on the crowd side of the barrier, so I jump over the barrier & walk in...

To find zero sign of anything even remotely First Aid related, but some tables piled with cases of beer, many coolers, beach chairs, sun loungers etc & several worried looking USAF guys.
There was some panic among them & then one of the guys offers to drive me to "The First Aid Post" (eh? what's this then?), so we jump in a truck & drive down the flightline... during which the guy explains why there wasn't any first aid equipment in the tent.
A bunch of enlisted guys had acquired the tent & erected it right up against the the barrier. They set it up as their own personal bar for the weekend & the public couldn't see inside it from the sides or back.
We were invited to participate in their plan if we kept quiet, which was quickly agreed to & we got to spend the weekend being plied with free beer any time we walked past the front of the tent.


Got patched up at the real First Aid Post & was good to go for the weekend (more or less). The pic was taken Sunday night at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. Still have a 1in long scar.

I have a t shirt that's about 30 years old, couple of other things that are 20+ years old.

I did have a clear out last year though and decided to part ways with some shoes I bought in early 2000's (that I grew out of) and a shirt I wore in secondary school

Most of my clothes aren't that new, and it shows. I occasionally think I should tidy myself up a but. What I lack is what I think is called smart casual.

The last thing I bought new was a pair of work dungarees from Lidl.

I'm currently wearing a Fox t-shirt that I bought on holiday in Cornwall in 2007 and a pair of Asda shorts that are over 15yrs old.

Every year or so I end up with some new stuff when I'm out shopping with my wife for her birthday, but it's all Burberry or similar and you can't walk around the UK like that or you'll get stabbed and robbed in the street, so my everyday clothes for the UK are years and years old, some of it is old issued kit like plain green combat trousers and I left the army 21yrs ago.

I've some regularly used MTB shorts that are a decade + old. Always washed on a low spin with no conditioner really helps.

T shirts and everyday shorts last around 2 years before I wear them to death.

I thought of this thread the other day, as there's a photo of me with the Gremlinette wearing a Ringspun t-shirt with Michael Caine as Carter on it. She was probably 4 years old at the time.
I was putting some washing away the other day and saw it in my wardrobe. Gremlinette will be 22 this year.

This has made me feel better about my pretty ancient wardrobe!! Currently sitting in my rehab room with a zip up hoody over my legs (blanket arriving this afternoon with a friend!) - I bought the hoody in 2016, put the zip in it in 2020 after the second shoulder rebuild cos I hadn't been able to wear it . It's a bit worn but I like it!!

I have some very very worn tshirts - probably the only thing I have to buy regularly is jeans (when I come back to the uk). But I've recently found that some of my fleece / jackets now do up, so I am back to wearing my 2003 centenary TT fleece . (Not here, keep forgetting to put that on the list of stuff I 'might need' for here!)


I have the most amazing collection of shoes that I haven't worn since 2017 due to living in resort (high heels and mountain steepness don't go together!) - since I've moved down the hill I've actually worn a nice pair of smart shoes out, once

With a bit of luck, this time in rehab I can sort out both knees a bit better and get back to wearing some of the 'less high' heels


Probably should start buying some less worn clothes, but there are some tshirts/hoodies/sweatshirts I suspect I'll always want to wear!!
