What Would You Choose?
Three of the lads on our trip flew over from UK. Brothers and a nephew of the Fuerteventura lot.
They all hired Triumphs
But on the forthcoming Gran Canaria trip there's a bigger choice.
Just wondering what you'd choose for a few days in the mountains?

Re: What Would You Choose?
I don't like any of them, but if forced to pick,it would be anything other than those horrid ADV abortions.

Re: What Would You Choose?
Probably the African Twin but tbh I'd give any of them a day or two apart from the F800s and 900s.
The GS Adventures are probably too big/ponderous if the roads are anything like I imagine though so I'd probably swerve them too.

Re: What Would You Choose?
It would depend on what mountain roads they're planning on riding, staying on good quality tarmac with lots of curves & bends I'd go for the GSX 8,MT 07 or XSR 900.If they're doing some gravely stuff or poor quality road surfaces I'd go for the NX 500 or CF Moto 450.

They'll all do the job, I think personally I'd avoid the really big heavy things.
That GSX8TT looks like it might be fun.

The CF 450 thing.
I have almost zero interest in the 1300 BMWs.
Mebbe the Transalp.

Re: What Would You Choose?
Hmmm, assuming it's all going to be tarmac the 750 Hornet, I think it's the lightest of the 700 - 800 twins, if going off road the CF 450, I think the 450 would be a bit gutless on steep uphill sections for road use, I'm not tall enough for the 750 Tenere and the 750 Transalp is seriously meh.

Looking again I'd rather like a day or two on that Ducati DesertX I think.

Me too. I'd be tempted to go for the Ducati Scrambler.Rockburner wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 7:17 pm They'll all do the job, I think personally I'd avoid the really big heavy things.

Re: What Would You Choose?
I probably shouldn't answer this because I'm special. 5'3" of special.
It would have to be the Triumph 400, BMW 310R or the 750 Hornet. You couldn't pay me to ride an NC750, I'd rather jog and the others are too tall (would spend most of the trip picking them up).

Re: What Would You Choose?
For fun in the twisties I'd go Hornet 750 or Suzuki GSX8TT. Else a Stelvio as never ridden a Guzzi.

XSR900 for the giggles. You couldn't pay me enough to ride any of those gopping ADV bikes

Re: What Would You Choose?
I was out cycling in the countryside and a bunch of geezers came past on some Africa Twins.
I'd never thought much of the AT line before, or ADVs in general, but it was cool as fvck, I was jealous.

Re: What Would You Choose?
I do think it's a shame they only make the 1100 version though. A 650 or 750 like they used to do would be a welcome variation. I really liked the early ones.DefTrap wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 5:29 pm I was out cycling in the countryside and a bunch of geezers came past on some Africa Twins.
