Re: Forum updates, info, costings and plans
We crossed into 200 registered members today. So I think we're doing ok.
Everything going well on the hosting side and scheduled backups now sorted of both the database and file structure.
New merchandise arrived today which you've all ignored
But I'm happy with how it's all going.
Keep enjoying guys

Re: Forum updates, info, costings and plans
Well today we're about to hit 5000 posts... it's about 6-7 weeks in and we have 250 or so users...
I'm pretty happy with how the forum is doing, there's very little in the way of bickering and plenty of excellent content.
But it does seem a little 'lacking' at times, but i think that's simply down to people behaving themselves a bit.... Also a little down to lack of members. But i honestly haven't worked out how exactly we get other random users or should i say potential users.
I'm hoping you're all enjoying the forum, the vibe and the updates/changes. As per the other thread, i can't do everything people ant, but i'm trying my best to keep as many possible as i can.
Keep posting, keep enjoying and thanks to all of you.

Re: Forum updates, info, costings and plans
I'd say things will 'busy up' when TRC finally closes. I'd imagine folk have this site as a reserve team for the moment. After September will be the time when you may see a different posting style, because mostly people find it difficult to change.
It'd be cool if we could preserve the present vibe, but as you say Weeksy, be a little busier. I'd grown tired of the point scoring and I'm enjoying the relative calm/easy going manner in this little harbour. It'll be interesting to see if the usual protagonists will be prepared to wipe the slate clean and make a fresh start.
I have a hunch that's when the next phase of your labours will be well exercised.
Appreciate your work man.

Re: Forum updates, info, costings and plans
Just as a note... again, we paid our 3rd party helper for the upgrade today.
I know it's something i could arguably learn to do myself. But i'd need to build another test forum, fund that, then learn the upgrade process, then make sure if anything goes wrong i can recover it fully.
The guy i use runs 30 forums (fora ?) and i'm confident he knows what he's doing... So we outsource it to him.

Re: Forum updates, info, costings and plans
We've now got 3 months until it's time to renew our subscriptions with our ISP
Currently we have :
Web hosting
Storage hosting
Email hosting
SSL certificates for the forum
DNS for revtothelimit.co.uk
DNS for RTTL.co.uk
Now, whilst we've had the occasional outage on the forum, I think it's been brilliant in terms of performance and uptime so I'm inclined to stick with our hosting provider. It's not the cheapest out there by any means, but we've had less than 20 mins of downtime this year which is pretty good.
We have enough capacity currently and enough bandwidth so I'm happy there too.
Any questions, be it private or public, you know where I am.

Right then kids... we've got 17 days left until our first year on RTTL is complete.weeksy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 9:20 pm We've now got 3 months until it's time to renew our subscriptions with our ISP

As above it's time to get out the wallet and pay the dues.
Again, as above, i'm happy with the current hosting package, whilst we have had a couple of small 2 mins outages and on 10-15 mins outage i recall, i think that's pretty decent odds considering what we pay.
As always, any donations to the forum are appreicated, there's times when this pays for itself, but there are times when the board costs us money. We all get great information out of it, sometimes we save money with deals we find, bikes we buy or sell... sometimes i imagine this site costs us money as we find tools and 'stuff' we end up buying too so it's a double edged sword hahaha
But... let me know if you have any aversion to renewing with current hosts... i'd like this to be a forum/team decision and not just mine

Re: Forum updates, info, costings and plans
So far this place has cost me the price of a new bike and a fork upgrade...at the very least.
A shower of bastards ye are.
All is fine for me with the current hosts, let us know if we need to stump up.

You got off lightly ..... I had a heart attack worrying whether I had made the right decision in joining
Seriously, Steve, I know I don't contribute much but do enjoy popping in from time to time. All good with me.

Re: Forum updates, info, costings and plans
Subscriptions have slowed massively lately to a standstill, I had to actually check it was all working still lol.
We've got a few upcoming renewals soon but at the moment it seems the membership is a little frozen, both in terms of posters and subscriptions.
However that doesn't mean I'm unhappy, I think the forum is doing brilliantly and the content is excellent.

Re: Forum updates, info, costings and plans
There's a core of regulars here (as with any forum,I suppose) so there's bound to be a point where subs/new members reach a peak and the uptake slows. As you rightly say the place is pleasantly busy with enough variation to amuse most folk. It can be difficult to establish an entertaining and regular format without becoming samey and tedious and so far that series of balls are well juggled.weeksy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 11:32 am Subscriptions have slowed massively lately to a standstill, I had to actually check it was all working still lol.

Provided the current income covers the outgoings, then all is good.
