Good call on the CPS. My daughter's Corsa would spin over but not fire up, and it was intermittent with no engine light initially. Then it did come on and I scanned it and found out it was the CPS. Only one bolt and connector but it was bloody fiddly to do with my big fat sossie fingers as it was tucked up behind the driveshaft!!

Wonder why my garage didn't find it if that was the issue with mine? They'd been pretty good up until then. Used them for a few years on the Volvo and a couple of other cars.

No light, no code. Garages are reluctant to spend your money on processes of elimination.

You'd think a good garage would have had a clue and its not an expensive part as such, so they could have suggested it as a educated guess? But maybe, given the high mileage, they saw it from the POV that it wasn't worth spending on?

Case in point; My Son had a 118i BMW that kept going into limp mode but again with no codes initially. The local german car specialists (well respected) did suggest some things to us to try, but didn't work, injectors etc, and it turned out to be the relucter rings on the driveshafts! Sadly we ended up with a £1400 bill, of which at least £500 was for parts it didn't need. We authorised the work as it was a £10k car and couldn't exactly be scrapped. What was really annoying was I was relaying this tale to some mates, but before I got to the cause my mate told me what it was and said ffs they should have known that as its a common fault! D'oh!

Neighbours are lovely and great friends. But their knobhead son comes out twice a year for a month.
He fleeced me out of some money awhile ago, so extra knobhead points.

They have a marvellous party on beach every Xmas and rich son pays for it all.

Common as muck on my old Volvo. Every day the bastard would do this. Let it cool and life was good again. Changed sensor and it was like a new car. shame the chassis was rotten.
