MX Tryouts for the boy?

The lad has been asking about some MX stuff as a bit of fun, i'm slightly dubious as i feel it gives him a chance to break even more bones lol

But i'll open it for discussion.

We have Ashdown woods right by us which is an MX track, but doesn't have hire facilities for bikes/kit. But is only £25-35 for a days riding if we had our own. They've got multiple tracks from novice to decent...

There's places over Fromages way like Washbrook that does taster days... Maybe that ticks the boxes better.?

What about a proper experience day, Yamaha do official ones in Wales somewhere. I don't imagine they're cheap, but it will include all the kit and even some tuition?

I think that's essentially what the Washbrook days are in that context yes.

I don't know if you've seen it on IG or wherever, this is what Billy Pugh is doing, but xc type stuff rather than mx track.
He rode an event a couple of weeks ago and (unsurprisingly) did pretty well. I think it was a hare scramble type event which is usually a several mile lap, 3 hour time limit, most laps wins.
All on private land so no road license needed.
It's the sort of event I used to do many moons ago, they're great fun and fookin hard work.

Kawasaki used to do try out days at Chippenham that were good, don't know if they still do them.

Washbrook MX is near March, that's about 90 minutes from mine, confusing because there is a village called Washbrook near Ipswich.

Yup, took my two youngest on a day there, was at Wildtrax back then, where there were two tracks and a separate area for getting the absoloute basics nailed, really good day.
One of mine ( Fin, the youngest) was a total novice, never having used a clutch lever before, the other (Toby) I'd bought a CR85 for his birthday a few months previous and he'd had a couple of goes on it, (one of them at Ashdown, which on reflection was a mistake) , scared himself shitless, and the instruction , and everything about the day was spot on for them both, they both came on loads and loved it.

James is undoubtedly at a far far higher level of bike control and bottle than either of them were, or I imagine, will ever be, but if he doesn't have motorbike experience, he's going to have a lot to learn still ( although I predict he'll be f. fast from the off, well, unless of course he's like his dad proports to be on an off-roader

Looks like it's still going, slightly different place by the look of it and I guess probably different people- is the way to go in this scenario though IMO

I've taken my 10 year old to MXTryOut in Mildenhall a couple of times, most recently back in August. £190 for each day if I remember correctly, expensive but my lad thoroughly enjoyed both days. There were three groups based on size/age and ability. As LFG says, it's the back of beyond but they've now got a decent burger van on site. Recommended.
