Span adjustable levers

Post by Dodgy69 »

"On the Benelli"...hang on, keep reading, both levers have span adjustment 1 - 4. Very little difference between them. Yesterday needing to grab front brake sharpish, i think my fingers slipped and brake kind of released, no drama as such but a future concern maybe.

Being a cheap skate anyone recommend any cheapos. Some sell seperate levers with an adapter required , some sell complete, I think. Any recommendations or is it best to spend more. I've seen Puig for about £130 a pair, I've seen some for £15.

What u reckon. ???

I've seen cheap Chinese pairs cause brakes to stay locked on as they ever so slightly added pressure to the system.

ASV used to be my go-to.

Mine were £96 each, so I'll stay out of this one.

No fears there, I wouldn't buy anything from Shein, Ali, Temu etc etc if they were the last shops in the world.

What the man says.

Like a lot of others I was lured by the Chineseium offerings and they were binned pretty promptly, lesson learned. I will never buy Ali-express/Temu shit ever again.

Yes the ASV levers are spendy, but I was keeping the bike long term,so judged it worthwhile. The fine levels of adjustment will ensure you get something to suit,no big steps between clicks. They are very well made items.
They are desirable,so you can always punt them on if you sell the bike.

I've got an Accossato M/C and lever.

Much more braking power and infinitely adjustable lever.

I found a lot of the aftermarket levers to be more squared compared to the rounded OEM ones and a lot less comfortable in use because of it. Back when form was more important than function to me, I bought several pairs for various bikes, normally cheap Chinese ones, and never had any problems with any of them, discomfort notwithstanding...

Hold on ! I have Aliexpress foldy, adjustable levers on the himmy because of my short fat fingers - how are they trying to kill me ?

Agree on not liking the squared edges though

There have been reports of the brake levers not allowing the piston in the master cylinder to fully retract... this causes some brake drag, which overheats the setup, locks the front brake on and chucks the rider off.

If you've not fallen off yet it probably doesn't apply to you :)

Exactly. If you've not experienced it in the first ride, you arguably won't do so...

Doubt that the Himalayan front brake could ever lock the front wheel !

It's so bad that I have to grab a massive handful on the gravel car park to get the ABS to kick in :x

I have a gilles on the clutch and a Chinese folding and fully adjustable lever on a copy of a rcs 19.

To be fair, I think a lot of the lack of free play criticism aimed at 'cheapo Chinese levers' are often because the person installing them hasn't adjusted the depth of the actuation prong (for want of a better word). On the Brembo levers I use there is a cylindrical piece that has a very small allen screw that locks the 'prong' in place. If you undo that allen screw then the depth of the prong can be altered by unscrewing or screwing it in. This determines how much free play there is between prong and master cylinder actuator.

This isn't the case for every master cylinder, just the Brembo ones I prefer and use.

I bought a pair of cheap pattern levers for my CBR. I'm about to pop them in the bin and replace with OE Honda.

Another idea is to remove adjustment pin/bolt by losing the circlip and removing some metal off the No 4 face, possible maybe. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've had to collect bikes (yes plural) with washers between the lever and piston 'cos they felt a bit weak'......until the pads/discs got nice and hot
