If you own one, would you mind giving your impressions on it, please?

Thanks

I've sat on one in the showroom.

The same engine as my Hypermotard which is decent enough.

Yup. On request, but if anyone replied to the write-up the content should be there I think.

All I found was this. Might have some useful links/reviews but no personal ride reports.

The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

I saw a few of them at a Ducati Owners club meeting. They are tall , look great from a distance - but close up i was unimpressed by the quality of some of the fittings / finish.
The guy who owned it thought it was brilliant. He knows more that i do !

I loaned one for the morning.

My memory is bad (as in I can't remember much detail) but overall I remember being disappointed, it felt like a fairly unsubstantial big trail bike that had nothing special about it, I remember having a good look over it and the general impression is that it was very much built to a budget, like a mid-range naked bike, but it had been marketed as a really special off-road high end Ducati, etc.
There was none of the quality that you feel on the old 80's big trail bikes, even though they're dated now you can still feel that in their day they were well built and engineered, the Ducati felt like it probably wouldn't last a day on gravel roads, never mind a Dakar rally.

In the afternoon I swapped to the Hyper SP and that was a very different thing, it still wasn't for me but it was special, built well, top quality components and even though I wasn't buying one I still understood why other people would, it felt like a top end bike.

Expectations probably come into it, I thought I was getting onto a flagship big trallie that would feel every bit as expensive as it is.
But the Desert X felt like a Chinese copy of a Ducati.

Only time I've seen one was at Ducati Aylesbury. I thought they looked great in the pics, however what sounds like mirroring other comments, I thought up close it looked a bit cheap/budget. As in not as nicely finished as my Suzuki, which I think I'd not expected from a Ducati but maybe I'm asking to much of a budget Ducati. No idea on riding.
