If you're worried about leaving them on, could you power them via a relay with that switched from a line which is worked by the ignition switch?

My bike to bike radio was (albeit low draw) taken off the rear brake light wire (so switched). A mate fitted a louder horn, the standard horn switched the relay, which powered the horn from the battery.

Or wire them via the headlight.

MAybe i'm expecting too much from a system or maybe that was ridden in the salt flats, dunno... but i'd be VERY unhappy if i'd paid money out and ended up with it looking like this.
Just ended now at £220. I was half tempted coming into the last seconds, but i wasn't sure how well it would clean up, or not.... So i decided not to click it.
I think it would have cleaned up really well and easily.

This is how the system I posted earlier now looks *.....

* I have gone over it with autosol since but the picture i took is a bit crappy

I know a couple of people who use heated gloves, they say they are much better than grips as they heat the back of the hand not just the palm. But they are £££'s

They're not cheap no, but they're not completely insane either.

Currently sitting browsing a couple of more random options

Been giving this some thought today and weighing up some options.

Before i go out and get a box i've been reading bit from earlier in the thread of Trickys and G.Ps thoughts on the bike regarding 'fork dive' and while i don't recall having an issue myself, i've never been known for 'feel' on a motorbike, certainly not in the same way i have with a MTB that's for sure.

There's a number of options.
1. Fork oil, replace some/all with heavier weight oil
2. Springs + oil
3. Ktech SSK piston kit.

So i had a chat with Colin at 100% suspension. I've known him for many many years and he knows his stuff.
.the honest answer is the weakness of most forks is the damping which is what the piston kit cures if we take this as a complete package ie springs and piston kit and we say that overall that feels 100% better the springs are about 20-25% of that, the rest is down to the improvement in the damping
So i'm pretty sure i know where i'm heading with this, but if anyone in an XSR/MT09 or even just knowledge of the world of suspension has thoughts, i'm all ears :)

I'd trust Colin. He always set up my bikes well.

I do trust him, however it's more 'me' that i don't trust. In the context of 'would i actually even notice' or if i do notice, would it be a discernable benefit in any way. I guess it comes down to Portimao as much as anything, would i go better/quicker/easier ? I don't really know. If not, then is there any real reason to bother.

I have no idea about suspension set up. The new one seems Ok, but will get it fiddled with at Portimao.

The way I approach things like this is..I ask myself what I dislike, then take advice from those who know how to get me where I want to go. If the forks feel fine to me,then they are fine!

ME neither, in a context of motorcycles. I can tune and dial in a front and rear end of a MTB all day. I've played with settings lots on mine and with the benefits at times of a 'Shockwiz' which is like having your own personal Colin attached to your bike, i've learned how to feel what it's doing, why it's doing it and whether i like it more or less than previously. I can now get a bike to 95% of where both me and the Shockwiz say is correct, just by bouncing on it in the car-park/garage. Everyone who's bike i've twiddled now says it's improved afterwards with my settings. But on a motorbike, indeed on this particular motorbike too, it's all a mystery to me.

Fork dive... does it have it... well people say it does, lots of them on the internet.... But do i notice it... Not so much.

Yeah pretty much, but it's winter and he's there and i'm here so that's not an option. I think some forks are considerably better/worse as a start point anyhow. The XSR/MT09 seems to be at the more basic end of things. But then again, i'm more at the basic end of skills too :)

If you can do that on a MTB,then you can do it for a motorcycle,I can't see how it's a mystery. It's just being honest with yourself.

I enjoy the process of setting up my bikes to suit myself, but often I don't find what I'm after with stock settings. That's when the experts earn their money.

This GSXR is capable of winning races as standard. But it needs setting up properly.
It may be OK as it is, or maybe way out.

I'm not 100% happy ATM. If I can't get it sorted at Portimao, a new bike may be ordered.

I've tried fella, more than once. I suprised myself this year when i fitted the Nitron shock the first time that i noticed
1. the ride height was lower
2. the bike turned in slower and ran wide.

That was quite a revelation to me when i actually noticed.

I also noticed the back end now being plusher and not being as harsh over humps, you ride over them now more than crashing over them with the shock. So it's clear i've got a bit more feel than i first thought.

On track though, things happen quicker, higher speed means less time and availability to think what the bike is doing possibly.

I wouldn't bother with just oil on yours - am sure you will be able to get improvements with just option 2, but 2 +3 would be my approach if you really want a decent improvement and adjustability.
YSS also do complete kits with springs and their version of the cartridge emulators (piston kit in KTech speak) , dunno if they have a fitment for the XSR , almost certainly they will be cheaper (£200ish for a kit that includes the emulators, springs, and pre-load adjuster fork caps) if you're doing it yourself, but it's definitely worth using Colin and his stuff, or someone with experience of your specific bike IMO

This is the key thing though IMO- it'll undoubtedly improve it, give you a more pleasant ride / allow you to brake/corner harder if you want, but if you are OK with how things are then money's probably best spent elsewhere (beer, petrol, cake etc ;) )

With stock suspension,I think the manufacturers try not to have setting which make a road bike unrideable,if an owner fiddles. The downside of this is,a few clicks here and there don't make much difference. Often it's not you can't feel any difference,it's actually because there is little difference.

That's one thing I've found with aftermarket suspension, even a very ordinary rider like myself can feel the difference.

Most road bike damping adjusters make very little difference, on some bikes I've had you couldn't tell the difference between an adjuster all the way in and out.

OTOH bikes were they do make a difference (GSXR1100K springs to mind) journalists accuse the bike of trying to kill them.
