My FiL lives on a farm, rats ate the wiring in his two year old High'n'dry Santa Fe, needed a new loom, was in the dealers for three months.

I gather wire chomping happens a lot to caravan and motorhomes when stored on farms.

About 25 years ago a mouse got into one of our 22000V substations and crawled between two of the phases. The substation burnt down and we then needed a new one, took years to be replaced.

Today we had to say goodbye to our beloved Elvis. We had a few days to say goodbye and the vet kept him calm and pain free.
He'll be up in doggy heaven nicking all the food.
Vet came to the house and he went peacefully out on the patio.
He was 14 and we had him 13 years

We'll miss you mate.

Sometimes I hope the stories about the Rainbow Bridge are all true. Lots of frolicking and favourite bones 🐕.

Sorry to hear about his passing. He was a fine mutt.

My dog has died.
I buried him in the garden
next to a rusted old machine.

Some day I'll join him right there,
but now he's gone with his shaggy coat,
his bad manners and his cold nose,
and I, the materialist, who never believed
in any promised heaven in the sky
for any human being,
I believe in a heaven I'll never enter.
Yes, I believe in a heaven for all dogdom
where my dog waits for my arrival
waving his fan-like tail in friendship.

Ai, I'll not speak of sadness here on earth,
of having lost a companion
who was never servile.
His friendship for me, like that of a porcupine
withholding its authority,
was the friendship of a star, aloof,
with no more intimacy than was called for,
with no exaggerations:
he never climbed all over my clothes
filling me full of his hair or his mange,
he never rubbed up against my knee
like other dogs obsessed with sex.

No, my dog used to gaze at me,
paying me the attention I need,
the attention required
to make a vain person like me understand
that, being a dog, he was wasting time,
but, with those eyes so much purer than mine,
he'd keep on gazing at me
with a look that reserved for me alone
all his sweet and shaggy life,
always near me, never troubling me,
and asking nothing.

Ai, how many times have I envied his tail
as we walked together on the shores of the sea
in the lonely winter of Isla Negra
where the wintering birds filled the sky
and my hairy dog was jumping about
full of the voltage of the sea's movement:
my wandering dog, sniffing away
with his golden tail held high,
face to face with the ocean's spray.

Joyful, joyful, joyful,
as only dogs know how to be happy
with only the autonomy
of their shameless spirit.

There are no good-byes for my dog who has died,
and we don't now and never did lie to each other.

So now he's gone and I buried him,
and that's all there is to it.

Today I have had a ministry meeting first thing, taken the daughter to therapy (she is not well), then home to continue admin work and some clearing the church grounds. Then walk the dog, yet again, and do some lunch. Out for a pastoral visit to someone who is being harassed by a neighbour (unpleasant situation) and supporting her. She has police/council involved, so things are moving on. Then a wedding rehearsal for a couple who have been together for 30 years, their wedding is on Saturday and what great joy to be with them. They laughed a lot and were able to relax and enjoy the practice run. So wonderful to be part of people's lives in this amazing way.

One who forgives an affront fosters friendship, but one who dwells on disputes will alienate a friend.

Surprisingly, the 2 days leading up to it was harder than now.

The vet was good and I felt his heart beat then slow and stop.
Then carried him to vets car and she put a blanket over him very carefully.
It was all so calm.

Loads of reminders around the house, but they aren't hurting.

Still miss him loads

Last night now and true to form, I took far far too many photos, have tried to post a few as I can, but I like them !!!!

Anyway - some mates organised a BBQ up on top of a mountain - two 4x4 trucks and a motocross bike and 11 of us had a really good BBQ with a load of laughs :) :) :) :)

Anyway - from when we got there to the sun going and then the last one is the almost full moon showing it's face just as we were leaving !!!

I was only using my phone, and the bastard thing does adjust for light a little too much :( but still, it's bloody gorgeous here in the summer as well

Sorry for your loss Yorick, pets have a horrible habit of getting right under our skins and it hurts like buggery when they are gone.
